Zosia's POV:
"Dr March, Mr Valentine this is Jennifer Read" Jac bellowed down the busy ward. "34 years old, collapsed at work with chest pains and breathing difficulties, I'll let you two deal with her" she continued then made her way back down towards her office.
"Ok" Ollie began "Can we get an ECG and a chest X-Ray please nurse?" Ollie glanced at me and smiled as we started to walk away from the patient.
"What do you think?"
"I'm not sure, it could be a number of things, we'll have to do a few tests first to rule out some options." I reply as we walk into the staff room.
After spending 30 minutes messing around and reading through the patients notes Ollie stood up and beamed at me.
"Tea? Coffee?" he asks as he grabs a mug for himself from the cupboard.
"No thanks, you make terrible cups of tea" I say laughing.
"Excuse me" Ollie moans, mock offended "I think you'll find I make the best cup of tea in this side of Holby"
"Ollie, your cat could make a better cup of tea."
Ollie takes a few steps towards until ours faces are inches apart, my eyes losing themselves in his, fixated in place. I see the corners of his lips curl up into a smile out of the corner of my eye and hold my breath.
"I'll get you back for that" he chuckles then quickly moves away moments before Damon walks into the room.
"I've got test results for a Mrs... uhh Read" Damon looks up from the paperwork and smiles at us, his arm outstretched waiting for one of us to take it from his hand.
"Uhh... thanks" I mumbled as I took the test results out of his hand.
"Mr Valentine? Are you going to look at these any time today?" I joked, raising an eyebrow.
"Pass them here then" he replies looking me in the eye with a smirk on his face.
Ollie's POV:
After spending what felt like hours explaining to Mrs Read that she needed a very basic surgical procedure she finally stopped asking, and repeating, unnecessary questions.
"Do you need us to call anyone, husband, siblings?" Zosia questioned.
"No, my husband should be on his way over now"
"Ok, we'll come back later to take you up to theatre" I uttered as Zosia and I slowly began to turn away from the patient.
"Sorry, excuse me?" Mrs Read piped up to which we turned back around to face the patient once more.
"I don't want to pry but are you two in some sort of relationship?" She asked.
I turned my head to face Zosia and she did the same to me, both with shocked expressions on our faces, blushing slightly.
"Umm... no, we're... we're not" I spluttered, suddenly feeling very awkward and uncomfortable.
"Oh I'm sorry, I was sure you were an item, I'm normally right about these things" the patient replied, appearing somewhat embarrassed.
"If you don't mind me asking" Zosia began, I turned to face her thinking through the possibilities of what she might say next. "What made you think that Mr Valentine and I were together?"
"Sometimes I just have a gut feeling you know? I feel like you have chemistry, you both smile when you look at each other which you probably don't even realise and when you're around each other, your eyes light up. It seemed plausible to me" she explained.
After a moment of silence had passed it was clear that neither of us knew what to say. I wish I knew what Zosia was thinking, if she had feelings for me, I certainly knew I had feelings for her but at the same time I was terrified of being found out for falling in love with someone else.
"Well... Dr March and I are just good friends" I finally said, breaking the silence.
"Yeah, Oliver and I would be quite revolting" Zosia said laughing, clearly trying to make the conversation less awkward.
Zosia's POV:
'What did I go and say that for? What if Ollie thinks I was being serious?' I thought to myself. 'Well done Zosia, good one' Even though I'm still unsure about my feelings for Ollie I didn't want to ruin any chances of ever being with him, which by saying that is something I might've just done.
"Ok, we'll see you in theatre later then" Ollie said, returning to his professional manner.
"So... how do we stop patients from thinking we're lovers then?" Ollie whispers, as we walk away from the patient and over to the desk.
"I don't know lover boy" I begin "I don't particularly want our friendship to be an act just to stop patients thinking that we're an item" I continue in a more serious tone.
"No neither do I" Ollie mutters. "If we carry on like normal we could just play along with the idea of being a couple, it could be some quality entertainment for the patients."
"Hmm. No hand holding though" I reply, laughing, playfully poking Ollie on the shoulder.
"Deal"
Later
Ollie's POV:
Ever since Mrs Read said we looked like Zosia and I looked like a couple, I couldn't get her out of my head. No matter how hard I tried to ignore it all I could think about was Zosia. Her eyes, her smile, she was truly beautiful. After Tara I thought that it impossible to love someone as much as I loved her, but Zosia isn't just a someone, she makes the impossible possible. She's flipped my world well as truly upside down in ways I couldn't even imagine. I just wish I had the guts to tell her how I really feel.
"Ollie?" Zosia called, looking slightly concerned.
"Hmm, sorry?"
"Are you ok? You looked like you were deep in thought" she stated smiling slightly.
"Umm, yeah I was. Don't worry, it's fine - I'm fine" I said calmly, giving her a reassuring smile.
Her smile grows larger as she nods her head in satisfaction.
"Today was fun wasn't it lover boy?" she asks with a cheeky grin, winking at me.
"Hmm, yes. Apparently we're dating now." I say, sarcastically emphasising the 'dating'.
We slowly walk closer together amused by the whole situation until we're stood in front of each other, still smiling. Our eyes lock into place, just like they did earlier on it the day. I glance down a Zosia's lips and momentarily hold my breath, getting lost in the moment, not thinking about any of the implications if I kissed the beautiful woman standing before me, right here right now. I moved my attention back to her eyes and fall in love with her all over again. Time felt like it had stopped and we were the only people that mattered, she was the only person that mattered. Without thinking, I leaned forwards until our lips barely brushed against each other yet the small touch sent millions of bolts of electricity rushing through my body until I was suddenly brought back to earth, where time started moving again when Zosia put her hands on my shoulders and pushed me away.
"What do you think you're doing?" she cried, looking confused lifting her hands up so they rested on her head.
"I... I thought-"
"I know we joked about being in a relationship Oliver but that doesn't mean we are, you do know that don't you?"
"I uhh... yes"
"Then why did you - look it doesn't matter. Forget it" she stammered as she started to walk away.
"Zosh"
"Don't call me that... please" she mumbled as she opened the door, turned back to face me, visibly upset and walked out slamming the door behind her.
I sauntered towards the door, wanting to apologise properly to Zosia. I placed my hand on the door handle and stopped, leant against it with all my weight and put my head in my hands. 'You stupid idiot' I thought to myself 'What did you go and do that for?'
