The grandfather clock in the hallway struck eleven as Ink prepared his magic attacks and set more paints and brushes along his sash.
"Error?" He spoke up, breaking the calm yet tense silence.
"Yeah?" Error looked up from where he was sitting at Ink.
"I just want to tell you that I love you... If one of us doesn't make it out of this, I want you to know that I love you," Ink said somberly, casting his gaze downward. Error stood up and cupped Ink's cheek bones in his hands, making Ink look up at him.
"Don't say that, we'll both make it out alive, we'll be fine," Error said, quickly kissing Ink.
"As much as I want to believe you, I know how powerful Nightmare is, and one of us might not make it out alive," Ink told Error, silenced by another kiss.
"Don't be so negative Inky, you're supposed to be the positive one," Error looked down at him with emotion filled eye lights.

Another hour passed, Fresh and PaperJam sat on the couch downstairs with worried looks on their faces as they glanced at each other. Finally Ink and Error descended the stairs, wearing battle attire with overwhelming magic contents. Ink had done away with anything frilly that could be caught on in battle, like his scarf, he had rolled up his sleeves over his elbows. Error now only wore a black tank top with the normal Sans shorts, he still wore his slippers though.
"Error, what did I tell you about the slippers?" Ink turned and scolded his partner.
"Do I have to?" Error whined.
"Yes!" Ink said, Error huffed and discarded his slippers and replaced them with tightly laced black and red sneakers.
"There, happy now?"
"Yes, very," Ink said. "Now, Jammy, we may be gone for awhile and if we're gone for more than a day don't come looking for us, our mission has probably failed, I hope the we will come back by the time the sun rises," Ink told PaperJam, Fresh seemed to have already fallen asleep on the other's shoulder. PaperJam nodded.
"Please stay safe," PaperJam pleaded.
"Don't worry, we will," Ink kissed the top of PaperJam's skull lightly and smiled. "I love you," He told him.
"I love too Mom," PaperJam replied. And with their last goodbyes the pair departed from their home.

Ink went first, walking with light and careful feet, while Error, not so much, he was much larger than Ink causing his footsteps to fall loudly. Ink kept hissing at him to keep quiet as they ventured towards the dreaded dark lands where Nightmare's castle lay. As a former worker under Nightmare, Error knew where the secret back entrance was, therefore they had a bit of an advantage.
"Error there are some-" Before Ink could finish Error let out an 'oof' as he hit a stump hidden under the fog, almost falling over. "-Stumps," Ink finished with a tiny laugh. "Just try to be careful here," Ink told his partner, Error nodded.
"You could have warned me sooner," Error grumbled under his breath as they continued on. The trees had dark black sickening colored bark and the sky was the color of a deep grey before a storm. A thick, waist high mist lay over the ground and the ground off of the trodden path was muddy and messy. Not a single bird's song nor any other animal noises were heard, everything felt muffled and suffocating. Ink's eye lights changed rapidly as they darted around, his body tense and ready for any attack. Error on the other hand was occupied with making sure he wasn't tripping over any stumps. "Ow!" He hissed as a branch smacked him in the face.
"Shh!" Ink hissed. "I heard something," He readied an attack in his hands. Suddenly there was a bird's ugly cawing cry, a ruffled old raven perched on a nearby branch and screeched at them.
"Turn back!" It cawed. "Turn back!" It opened its ruffled wings and noisily yet swiftly took off into the grey, dead sky. Unnerved and slightly scared the pair continued on, not heeding the old raven's warning. Soon a large old castle came into sight, its stained glass windows faded and dusty, vines and other foliage climbed up the stones that made the castle, adorning it with dark grey, lifeless flowers.
"Is that it..?" Ink asked the other skeptically, Error only nodded. The two kept their distance as they slowly circled around it. They came to a wall with a multitude of off colored, red stone bricks instead of the normal grey. Error placed a hand under his chin in thought for a few moments before he pressed a certain order of them with great speed. There was a small click and a loud clunking of that of old gears turning. Ink smiled at his partner as the gears turned, soon there was a large dark opening that the two entered. After walking for awhile in the dark tunnel they came to a wall with a tiny switch next to it. Error flipped the switch and the wall went down, making way for the back of a dark blue-purplish tapestry.
"Be quiet," Error whispered before peeking out from behind the tapestry, seeing nobody he walked out from behind it, ushering for Ink to follow him. The two walked silently through the halls, only pausing as they heard an evil cackling coming from one of the rooms, making them speed up slightly. Soon they reached a large door that lead into a giant room. The room looked like a throne room and Error and Ink froze at what they saw. Nightmare sat upon a throne that emanated a dark feeling. He wore a grin upon his face and Cross stood next to him with a giddy smile on his face.
"You two really are a treat~" Nightmare laughed. "You just keep coming back, and every time I'll just kill you again!" He threw his head back and let out an evil cackle. "Now, go on Cross," Nightmare flicked his wrist towards the two. Cross' smile turned down into fear as he knew he couldn't beat the creator and destroyer. "What? Are you scared?" Nightmare mocked.
"N-no," Cross stuttered.
"Leave him alone! This fight is between us!" Ink snarled. Nightmare just rolled his eyes and used magic to push Cross forward.
"Just let Chara take over," Nightmare demanded.
"N-nightmare p-please," Cross looked genuinely scared. Nightmare scoffed and just snapped his fingers, Cross' eye lights turned red and he threw himself forward towards Ink. Ink flung paint at Cross, successfully pinning him to the wall, his eye lights turning their normal white and red again.
"This is out fight," Ink snarled. Nightmare huffed and stood up form his throne. He sent a tentacle towards Error, only to have it cut off by razor sharp blue strings. Nightmare was unphased by this. He picked up the large knife from the ground and readied it in his hands. Ink held his large paintbrush in his hands and ran towards Nightmare.

Many hours later the fight had not ceased. Until suddenly Nightmare gasped as Ink laid a hit on him. A spear had hit him right in his soul, ripping through his gooey body. Cross let out a wail of surprise and sadness as Nightmare fell to the ground. Nightmare's body shuddered before the goop melted off of his bones, leaving a dusting white boned skeleton on the floor. Cross screamed as he broke free from the paint and landed on Ink, summoning his knife and plunging it into Ink's ecto-stomach repeatedly. Ink screamed and tried to get Cross off of him. Error growled and grabbed Cross by his scarf, throwing him backwards and holding Ink in his arms. Ink's body shuddered as his inky blood poured from his middle. Cross leaned over Nightmare's dust, large purple tears falling down his cheek bones and to the floor below.
"Don't look at it," Error hugged Ink close as his tone was low.
"E-error..?" Ink looked up at Error with big yet cloudy eye lights.
"Yes..?" Error's eye sockets were slowly filling with tears.
"I-I love you..." Ink smiled as his eyes fell shut, his hand ghosting over Error's cheek bone slowly.
