In Memory of My Friend June

by sloanranger

Song/video: Written by Van Morrison - performed by Rod Stewart

There was a little bairn, born across the sea,

sailed across the ocean when she was only three.

This sweet and bonny lass (and no one could deny),

had lots of smiles & lots of sass and eyes just like the sky.

She landed here, in USA a new path to forge -

here she came and here, she'd stay, with Margret and George.

On a street named Emerald, this bonny child she grew,

in a town called Pacific Beach, she and her eyes of blue.

We met when we were neighbors, got on and sometimes not

but in the end we turned into, quite a merry lot.

Can take some time to trust someone, that is very true,

but gee, it's really worth it when you finally do.

We'd hoped to go to Paris, Italy and Rome,

waltz around the blue Danube, Vienna be our home.

Fly to Greece and see the ruins, ride gondolas in Venice,

Westminster Abbey for the tombs, visit the Holy City.

We'd ski the Alps in winter, stay in a Swiss chalet,

charm all the men at night and go hiking every day.

Travel then to Giza - shining in the sand,

in awe stare at the pyramids, standing hand in hand.

It was not meant to be – our dream was set aside,

my friend, she went away, my darling June, she died.

But we are sisters she and I, and so shall always be,

I wish her joy in Heaven - and through all Eternity.

A/N The lovely song/video - by Rod Stewart in Media (written by Van Morrison) was one of our 2 songs. When either of us hear it - we know the other is close.
