They shoot first.
The first one hits the officiant.
"Get down!" I scream at my parents, momentarily forgetting about everyone else.
Everyone starts running. In the chaos, the queen of France, the Prince of Italy, a few Twos, some of my mother's friends, Blaire, Anna, and Elise all die. All of them.
"Get America to safety!" I yell at Aspen, who seems to be frozen in shock. I guess I missed one death. Lucy. She had come to investigate what was going on. She had no idea.
Aspen didn't move.
It was my job now. I push aside the atlar, which topples easily, and start lunging towards America.
Just as I get to her, she throws herself at my mother. I watch, perplexed, as I wonder what she could be doing.
Everything is cleared up when the bullet meant for the queen lodges in America's hip.
All three of us cry out at the same time.
