Shattered

Chapter 1: Away

Author's Note: This is my first Wattpad story! Forgive me for any grammar or spelling mistakes and any horrible bits XD. This is the introduction of the characters, pretty much. POV means Point Of View, for any people who don't know. Btw, the picture is of Sapphire running in the snow- kinda cute :D

SAPPHIRE'S POV:

I'm lashing my snow-streaked tail and scattering the cold white powder around the muggy den. "MA! I'm fine, and am capable of going there by myself!" I pivot to give my ma a cold glare. She chuckles. I'm always told I'm hot-headed and sometimes troublesome. But honestly, I can never find someone who I could really have fun with and not judge me for it!! I also wish I had brothers or sisters, though we're an odd family with just... me.

She wraps her fluffy tail around my bristling fur, emitting a warm purr. "Sapphire. It's your first day at the academy and I want you to have a good time." She reasons with me. "Now run along, you don't want to be late for your class." I lick her once on the nose before hurrying out into the crisp outdoors.

My icy cerulean gaze narrows against the slicing wind and powdery flurries of snow that hit me. I'm accustomed to travelling and hunting at dawn or dusk, so this is a change. We live on a rugged, rocky mountain, where the thick, towering pine forest skirt around. Shrieks of distant laughter from happy pups, cubs or kittens echo. I angle my head against the wind and plod onwards toward Claws Academy.

JASPER'S POV:

My brothers track across the thickening snow behind me. I'm the first in the line, breaking the lumpy ice and the forceful gales. I can't wait to meet other animals that won't taunt me like my brothers do and have a blast with! When we received the invitation from the white wolf messenger, my parents were more than willing to kick me out of the den into the 'big world'.

The Academy peels into my view. It's settled into a beautifully crafted mountain with a waterfall tearing down it, protected by a line of pine trees. I can already see bears, snow leopards, wolves and foxes messing around together in harmony. I walk faster, urging my brothers and sister on with a single bark. I glance back at my siblings: my burly dark-coloured brother Oak, skinny, pale creamy white brother Kaolin and my shy, slender, beautiful white sister named Willow.

We finally reach the dry stone path that leads to the Academy, where I give a gleeful yip and power onwards. I lift my head up high. As we trot onto the premises, I lift my tail in a casual act of dominance and happiness. My sister scampers off to talk to an arctic fox she saw and brothers go to a group of laughing male wolves. "See ya later, Kaolin, Oak and Willow!" I know that I have handsome russet fur and amber eyes flecked with forest green. Also, with an odd white sock on my front left leg, I know I stand out from the crowd.

I pad to a sleek dark grey wolf with a small leather bag, engraved with "Slate", hanging from his ruff. "Hi." I drop my head a bit in respect. "Where are we going? Do I need to get something?" I ask. The male wolf jerks his head to a stone overhang with a cluster of wolves. "You can go over there to get your wolf leather bags and get your name marked off," he tells me warmly. "today is Exploring Day, where you can meet new animals and explore the Academy."

"Do you teach here?" I ask the pale-blue-eyed male. He nodded, telling me, "I teach the art of blacksmithing and metals. Now go on, the bell's ringing." I grin at Slate and sprint to the entrance of the hollowed mountain entrance. I receive a few stares and out-of-the-corner-of-your-eye looks and I wink back at any animals that dare to maintain their stares. I find that the ways of Claws Academy are fascinating, with no grovelling or tucking tails between legs. In fact, there's joy, and laughter, which I know my siblings will enjoy. I'm glad. It's a new start for all of us- one we need too.
