Amanda Yarbrough spent years of her life trying to find her Max. Her mother's first dog had been named Max. He was the smartest, most loyal dog that her mother had ever owned. So they made it their mission to find a dog that could live up to Max's legacy. However, Amanda's mother died when she was only eight. She gave up on finding Max. That is, until a baby fox showed up in her back yard. She named him Max and hid him for as long as she could. But when her father returned from a business trip, she was forced to take her pleading to court. Judge Weatherbee decided she could keep Max thanks to their permit, provided by the Max and Me animal sanctuary, opened by Amanda's mother and her Aunt Kathy. But Amanda's troubles were not yet over. She kept Max until her sixteenth birthday. Max was six years old. He wandered through the woods during Amanda's birthday party, and while walking across a fallen log, he fell and drowned in the river. But he swore he'd come back to protect Amanda. And he did. Through Amanda's teenage years, young adult years, and well into her thirties, Max found her. Whether that was as a giant German shepherd or a tiny toy poodle, it didn't matter as long as he had his little girl.
