Chapter 21

A couple hours later I was sitting on the couch going over some files so I wouldnt fall behind when she walked into the living room.
"How did you sleep?" I asked watching her walk over and pour herself coffee
"Fine." She said blankly
"I called mom." I said as her eyes got wide
"Why? Why would you do that?" She asked getting upset
"Because its mom. She has every right to know." I said standing up walking over to her
"No she doesnt." She said walking out of the room and back to the guest room
I groaned as my phone rang
"Hello." I said with no emotion
"Hello to you too." My southern voice came through
"Sorry Will." I said walking to stand on my balcony
"Hows your sister?" He asked
"Not good." I said looking over the city
"What happen?" He asked sounding protective
"She thinks she was raped and started failing her classes." I said fighting back tears
"Oh." Was all he could say
"My mom and Nate should be coming up. I didnt tell them anything. I was going to let her do it." I said wishing he was here with me
"Im sorry Jennifer." He said making a few tears fall down my face
"I love you." I said before getting interrupted by a knock on the door
"I think my moms here." I said as we said our goodbyes and I went to answer it
"Nate couldnt get off and couldnt find anyone to watch Holly." My mom said walking in
"Where is she?" She asked one she put her stuff down
"I will get her." I said walking towards the guest room
I knocked and heard nothing
"Shelby moms here." I said and it was still silent
I opened up the door seeing she fell back asleep.
"Shelby. Moms here, you need to tell her." I said nudging her to wake up. But got no response
"Shelby?" I asked getting louder and I looked at the night stand
"Shit. Mom!" I yelled and she came running in
"Call 9-1-1. She tried to over does." I said finding a weak pulse.
Mom looked like a deer in headlights and started to panic. This is the second child who has tried to commit suicide. I ended up calling the paramedics and we got her rushed to the hospital and her stomach pumped.

We sat in the room waiting for her to wake up. Nate came and found someone to watch Holly thankfully.
"Jenny, why did she do this?" Nate asked me in the hallway
"She told me she thinks she was raped." I told him with tears in my eyes. Something changed in him and he got angry. Ive never seen him get this angry before. His eyes said it all.
"Nate. You need to calm down. This isnt going to make things better." I said looking at him straight in the face
"My youngest sister was possibly raped and you calm about it." He said almost yelling
"Nate shut the fuck up." I said matching his voice
"You two need to go outside if you are going to yell." A nurse said with security guards. And we both instantly flashed our badges. Luckily mine out ranked Nates detective badge. We silently walked out to the parking lot.
"Does mom know?" He asked as he pulled a cigarette out
"No. And when did you start smoking again?" I asked pulling it out of his mouth and breaking it
"I only do when Im stressed." He said pulling another one out
"Grandpa died of lung cancer asshole." I said taking it and the pack and throwing them away
"How are we going to tell mom?" He asked giving up
"I dont know. Shes to stressed about Shelby and the fact she almost lost another child to suicide. I think Shelby should tell her." I said pulling my phone out seeing Will was calling again
"Take it. Let him know." Nate said walking back inside the hospital.
"Hey Jen." Will said relived I picked up
"Hey." Was all I could say
"How is everything?" He asked before I finally broke down crying
"Its not good babe. She tried to kill herself. She didnt take enough pills and still had a weak pulse when I found her." I said calming down
"Im coming up." He said as he started to run around he sounded like.
"Will its fine. She will be out by Monday." I said sniffling
"No. Im coming. I found a ticket that leaves in an hour. I will see you soon. I love you." He said hanging up before I could fight back
I wiped my tears away and went back in. I walked into the room seeing Shelby still asleep and my mom resting her head on the bed next to her.

Three hours later I got a text from Will saying the hospital staff wouldnt let him up to see her.
I went down and saw him standing there with a duffle bag.
"How did you know what hospital?" I asked surprised he was at the right one
"I asked Nate." He said pulling me into a hug and kissing my forehead
"Before I bring you up there I need to tell you something. This is a very touchy subject to my family and why I never shared it really with anyone." I said taking his hand in mine as we walked out to sit on a bench.
