Story starts off right before Rory's 16th Birthday in season 1. Chapter 1 is in Rory's Point Of View(POV)

"Mom!" I call for my mother

"I'm here, I'm Her, I'm here' She scatters down the sairs while slipping her heels on. Thud, Mom was rolling down the steps. she reached the bottom with both heels on, 'Time" she asked with a serious tone.

"35 minutes and 22 seconds" I looked at my stop watch. she sighs in failure.

"I was so close, but yet so far" She slumped her shoulders. I handed her, her purse.

"Well you have a whole week to train for next time, but don't wallow we are already late and you know how grandma feels about us being late. I pushed my oh so elegant mother out the wooden doors and to the car. When we get in the car mom popped in a Bowie CD and we went on our way to mom's least favorite dinner of all dinners.

"So are you excited for your Birthday next week?" Mom asked me and I nodded. She turned and looked at me briefly then returned her eyes to the road.

"Kid, you know, if Grandma offers to throw you an uptight and stuffy party, you don't have to say yes" She assured me, with a little too much happiness in her voice, basically saying, whatever you do, do not say yes to a party.

"They aren't totally stuffy" I tried to hide what I felt. Mom gave out a quick and sarcastic laugh.

"Hon, we all know they are stuffy" She saw behind my statement. Our car pulled up to the grand brick house. Mom took a deep breath and got out of her car. We both slowly walked up to the wooden doors and I rang the doorbell. The new maid opened the door and we handed her our coats.

"Girls, you are late" grandma declares in monotone disappointment.
"Sorry, but we tried I was 20 minutes earlier than last week" Mom answered peppy. Grandma threw her a glare and mom's smile fell. We followed grandma to the living room for drinks. She handed me a soda and mom her drink. We sat and listened to grandma go on and on about her amazing DAR meeting she had yesterday. Then Grandpa walked down stairs finally.

"Hi grandpa!" I greeted him and gave him a hug.

"Hi dad" Mom greeted him.

"hello ladies, how are you, Rory how is Chilton treating you?" Grandpa asked as we all walked to the table for dinner.

"It is well, a lot of hard work, but a challenge is good." I gave him a smile and he gave one right back.

"here are the salads" the maid told us and handed us our first course. As we were eating, small talk was passed around the table. Grandpa promised to lend me a book, and grandma talked of the awful maid she fired about two days ago.

"So Rory are you excited for your 16th birthday next week" grandma asked and mom threw me a warning glare.

"yes grandma, very" I answered.

"well good, what are you doing to celebrate, are you having a party?" Grandma asked and mom kicked me under the table and threw a glare that was screaming warning, watch out, you are in trouble, you are digging your own grave.

"I don't know grandma, we aren't really sure yet" I responded and mom's head fell and shook back and forth.

"You don't know what you are doing for your birthday yet? Well, we must throw you a party, we will throw it next Friday on your actual birthday" Grandma insisted

"oh please grandma you don't have to do that" I tried to turn down the offer but she kept insisting.

"So send me a list of people to invite and I will take care of everything." grandma seemed excited. Grandma rushed away from the table and started planning. an hour later, mom and I started heading to the car.
