EIGHT CHAPTER

Tia...

The chaos around the table was once again giving a beat to my poor head-- just like every single night at the dinner table, where everyone either talk at once or they just talk so much with mouthfuls and about so many things, including the famous yada yada yada of parents giving their children a rundown of whatever they do or did wrong along with the steps to be better human being.

And tonight was just like any other night. My mom was scolding Gia for something-- maybe it was the 'bad' word she used in front of the Devils or the way she had been addressing me or the way she'd been ignoring them for taking her car keys and grounding her-- who was not really paying any heed to her but instead yammering about something completely different.

The Devils were screaming at each other over some superhero, and my Dad was eating his dinner-- making loud crunching and chewing sounds-- as if he had earplugs in his ears and wasn't hearing a thing around him. As if this place was freaking Peace Point for him!

Ugh!

I groaned, looking at everyone.

Is this normal?

I'd seen some families eat in complete and absolute silence, where the Parents threaten their kids only through their deathly eye glares-- daring them to make a sound of crunching or munching while chewing.

And honestly, when I tried to imagine my family to be that quiet and my parents to be like those scary eye glaring ones... just for a second and,

Holy Candy!

The visual that came to me was not good. I would rather have them laughing, talking, yelling, screaming, and messing around while eating than being that serene.

In that special moment of realization, I loved the noises and I loved everyone screaming, screeching at each other.

I ate a mouthful of my meal-- spaghetti with meat balls, and enjoyed the different flavors bursting in my mouth.

I laughed, chewing on my bite loudly like dad-- even exaggerating the loudness a bit. And guess what?

Just then the entire room tranquilized. Um...

Everyone stopped eating and simply glared at me as if I was the one screaming and talking and scolding and eating that way just couple of seconds ago.

I glared back in disbelief. I shrugged, swallowing and whispering, "W-what?" The devils laughed mimicking the exaggerated noises I was making while mom and dad shook their heads at me.

I sighed, twirling my fork in my plate.

And then, just like that they rolled their eyes and picked off from right where they left. I noticed Gia scrunch up her nose at me, smirking. And I killed the urge in me to kick her under the table. Because that wasn't going to help my next move, which I'd been dying to make since the dinner started.

Mom laughed at something dad said and the Devils had already started planning their next prank on their English teacher while Gia hastily texted on her phone-- definitely to her stupid minions.

That was the most quiet I was going to get to let my voice get heard.

That was my only chance. I'd received a text from Jacob a couple of hours ago for the address of his lake house. I asked him if he still wanted me at his party and he said Yes, why not?
