IF THERE WAS ANYONE that made Sam Uley's mind run wild, it was Hyacinth Embers. He could remember the way her hair felt like ropes of silk when he combed his fingers through it, or the way her eyes would sparkle when he opened up the front door to her as she threw her arms around him. He could remember all of these little things about her — memories he would hold close to his heart when she departed the town of La Push at the age of twelve.
It was fair for Sam to feel incredibly mopey. Hyacinth was his first girlfriend, after all. She was the girl that Sam dedicated his life to at the mere age of eleven, and the person he honestly believed he would spend the rest of his time with.
He didn't see her again until he finally felt like he had washed her completely from his system. He didn't see Hyacinth until he was so sure that he was going to marry Leah Clearwater and live happily ever after. He didn't see his childhood love until the weeks after he phased for the first time.
And when his eyes locked with hers, he knew it. She was the one.
However, the girl who once chased him around in nothing but pigtails and a yellow dress was not the girl he remembered. Hyacinth is a stranger to him now, and she prefers for their relationship to stay that way. She's heard the rumors of who Sam has become and as a promise to herself to get a fresh new start in the town she once loved, she keeps her distance.
She definitely wasn't going to make this easy for him.
