Cardinal

She was an ethereal miracle,
A cardinal timidly perched
On a weak branch of a lifeless tree

She was quite lyrical
And was the girl anyone would search for
And wait for, not flee

This cardinal inspired me
Fired me into an endless cycle

Every day I longed for a moment
Where life wasn't so dormant
A day where I looked forward
To being with the cardinal

But I was mistaken
I was careless and my cardinal was taken
Far away and no longer within my reach
I had not intention to wrong her
Or to negatively beseech

It was my fault

And now I'm the one who sits timidly
Beside the same winter-struck tree
Waiting for my cardinal to return
