"Holy sh- SLOW DOWN!" I scream, gripping Tooru's hand as he pulls me down the street, laughing giddily while I send silent prayers to the holy trinity- God, Buddha, and Jesus. And before you ask- no, I'm not holding his hand by choice. I'm simply holding on for dear life because I'm painfully afraid of letting go and being flung into the path of a sprinkler; but okay, maybe I've become a little attached to Tooru over the past week or so.Earlier that week...
"I just spoke to the chief of police, Mr. Rin Matsuoka, per recommendation of the child services center. It seems he has experience with cases like these, so he should be here any minute now." Mrs. Oikawa informs me, pocketing her iPhone with satisfaction.
It's the morning after my mom almost knifed Oikawa, but his mom isn't fazed in the slightest. She's been as busy as a bee, attending to both Oikawa and I while also contacting multiple organizations. "I'd like you to stay with us until we can go to court and plead your case. It should be at least two weeks, so I hope you don't mind staying with us for so long." She says.
"That would be amazing." I assure her, overwhelmed with gratitude. "Thank you so much. Your kindness has been nothing short of a miracle." If not for the Oikawas, I would be camping out at the subway station. I mean, I've done it before.
"Oh, it's no problem at all!" Mrs. Oikawa says, sending me a genuine smile. "Y/N, you're clearly a good kid who deserves the best life has to offer. I just wish I could do more." She glances at her watch. "Mr. Matsuoka went to your house and picked up your things earlier. He should be here soon."
As if on cue, the doorbell rings. Oikawa opens the door to reveal a handsome redhead in a police uniform. Wait, what? I blink a few times, squinting for good measure. He has... shark teeth? Alright, that's actually pretty cool.
"You must be Tooru Oikawa." The police officer extends a hand, which Tooru eagerly shakes. "I'm Rin Matsuoka. You guys can call me Rin. Ms. Y/N, I gathered the belongings I felt were essential to your stay, and if it's alright with you, I'd like to ask a few questions before I leave."
Rin grins at me, rows of sharp teeth glinting in the early morning sunlight. I must admit, he's sexy as hell- his uniform compliments his well structured body, and his ruby eyes are practically sparkling.
Using our combined efforts, we easily bring in four boxes and set them down in the guest bedroom. (which is just as gorgeous as the rest of the house- Oikawa's a lucky bastard) Upon our return to the living room, Rin hands a fifth box to me.
"These weren't deemed as 'essentials', but all of your manga volumes and anime DVDs- along with your headphones, earbuds, and speakers- are in here. By the way, I see that you watch Free!. I gotta say..." He takes a deep breath before wailing, "SUCH A GOOD ANIME!! My husband Haruka and I watch it all the time."
I nearly sob. "Can we adopt this shark?" I say to no one in particular.
"What?" says Oikawa.
"Shark?" says his mom.
Rin just chuckles and sends me a wink. "I don't think that's how it works, but I can give you an anime recommendation- Haikyuu!! absolutely slaps. Stan Bokuaka!"
...
After Rin asks me a few questions- how are you feeling, do you feel safe, are you confused- to which I answer accordingly, Oikawa and I say goodbye to him. Drained of energy, we plop onto the couch to wind down.
"Y/N, did you mean what you said? About feeling safe here?" Oikawa asks. I nod, taken aback by the question.
"Yes." I answer without hesitation. "You've all been so kind to me, even though I'm practically a stranger. You're lucky to have them." Oikawa smiles, a soft look in his eyes.
