Katz Pov.
"I slammed into the door, and ran out of there!" I finish, with all of the Few staring at me. Newbie packs a punch! How could she blame Lady Thor for not dying with her children?! I felt my respect for Newbie hit a new low. Kala looks betrayed, and I know why. She defended Newbie from Sly's treatment of her! Granted that Newbie could defend herself. I wait a moment, and Castor speaks up.
"We need to talk to her! This 'Lady Thor' person did everything she could for those ungrateful people, but Newbie seems to hate her!" Sly pauses at his words.
"Can I just say one thing before we leave? Who was right, Kala?! Who was right about Newbie?!" He gloats.
"Tch. You only had that opinion because she pranked you!" She argues.
"Kala, I'll go talk to her when you admit I was right!" He starts to tap his foot. "I'm waiting." Kala waits for two minutes, before reluctantly saying,
"...Fine. Sly was right, and I was dead wrong. Newbie wasn't the girl I thought she was. Can we go now?!" Sly opens the door, with an exaggerated bow.
"Gladly." We step out, determined to see Newbie. Whatever Lady Thor did, she only wanted to help those people! She doesn't deserve Newbie's blame! After ten minutes of walking, we step in front of Newbie's glamorous house. Pbat knocks, but there's no answer.
"Knock harder." Alex advises. Pbat knocks a little louder, to no avail.
"You knock like a wimp. Let me try." Jose raps on the door loudly, and it creaks open!
"Umm, hello? The door is open, and we're coming in!" Steven yells, his voice having a slight echo in the large halls. Kinda creepy. Kala goes in first, and we follow.
"Newbie?!" I ask loudly. No reply. We wander through the halls, until we find a strange door with a white label, 'Old friends, and older friends.' I turn the knob, but find it locked. A voice startles me.
"What do you think you're doing?" I spin around guiltily.
"N-Newb-bie!" She sighs, and shakes her head.
"That nickname has started to seem insulting. I would rather you not call me that."
"Then what do we call you?" Steven asks simply.
"Jessica. It's my real name, not counting Norse." What?! It was that simple to get her name?!
"Okay...Jessica." Sly starts. "Why do you blame-" 'Jess' cuts him off.
"She was a coward. A monster." I shook my head.
"No, she wasn't-" I start to argue.
"Yes, she was. You don't know the truth about her. Even if she only wanted to help, she was a monster. I know better than most." She interrupts.
"Stop-" I begin.
"Finishing your sentences? Sorry, you're too predictable." At this point Kala snaps.
"Stop being difficult! I defended you, tried to be your friend, and yet you didn't deserve it! You are just as horrible as those townspeople!" Jess seems to think for a moment.
"I am. But at the same time, I'm not. I'm also worse in some ways. Which do you think classifies me most, Kala?" Jess asks.
"Stop being cryptic, Newbie!" Jess raises her voice.
"Don't call me that. I understand you've tried to be my friend, and I've thought of you as one. I've repaid you for your efforts."
"How?! You've just worsened my impression of you, and made me hate your guts! I see no mutual friendship there!" Jess laughs, a full bellied laugh.
"No matter how you think of me, I still helped you. All of you."
"What do you mean?!" Castor asks. She looks serious.
"Have you ever done a trust exercise? Like letting a person catch you when you fall? Imagine that, but on a much deeper scale." We're still confused.
"I have no idea what you're talking about at this point!" Steven exclaims.
"Hmm. It might be better to show you. Anybody want to play a trust game?" We all look around, trying not to be picked. Eventually all of our gazes settle on Jose.
"What?! Why me?! Ugh, fine." He steps forward. "So, what is this 'trust game'?"
"You have to do nothing, but stand there." She turns away from us, and pulls something shiny out. Oh my goddess, that's a knife! We try to stop her, but she throws it, with deadly accuracy, into Jose's chest!
"Oh goddess! Jose! You are a monster!" Kala yells. We pin her down, and she doesn't resist! She seems to be... counting?
"What the hell?! Do you think this is a sick game?! You just killed him!" I shout, tears streaming down my cheeks. She just continues counting!
"About now, I think." She looks excited! Kala slaps her, hard. She doesn't even flinch!
"Holy crap! I'm a zombie!" I turn to see Jose, standing! He has no knife in his chest, or even a mark except for a thin slit in his t-shirt! Jess doesn't seem surprised!
"No. Take another guess." Jose looks angry.
"You tried to kill me! And... maybe I'm a ghost?" New-er-Jess, shakes her head.
"No, and no. You're immortal. I made you immortal. All of you. How'd you like the trust test?" What?! I'm immortal?! I see Jose's eyes widen.
"How?! I-I... This is so cool!" Jose marvels.
"How isn't important. It isn't always cool, you're lucky your friends are immortal too. That's my problem. I've went through at least ten sets of friends, this room is dedicated to them. I had to watch them grow up, and die!" I look to to the door, and feel like a bullet hit me. I was harsh on Newbie, she's went through so much! "Now, I would rather you leave my estate, before I call the cops."
"What?! We still need to talk to you!" Alex argues. I nod, and she just flicks a switch by the door. How did I not notice that?! The door opens, and she steps in. It closes behind her, and we try to get in using the switch. It doesn't work! After a whole bunch of pounding on the door, trying to pick the lock, and frost breath from Alex, we finally give up, and head home.
