Being a Lightwood has it's advantages, but it for sure also has it's disadvantages. As a Lightwood you are seen as royalty among the Shadowhunters and therefore you are forced to always show your best side, even though you have so many bad sides that are just as much part of you. Isabelle and Alec know how hard it could be to hide an important part of who you are, but they assure you that around them you can always be yourself, with all those little flaws only making them love you even more.

It's not only because of the name and what comes with it that Isabelle and you are very close. Isabelle is very caring and protective towards her family and you for sure are no exception to that. She can be angry with you at times and the two of you can yell at each other, but it's only because you love each other so much and because you want to best for the other. You were not quite okay with her relationship with Raphael, especially not when you heard about her addiction to vampire blood. But you were also the one who stayed with her through the entire withdrawal and kept on reminding her that she was Isabelle Lightwood and that if someone would get over it, it would be her. In return, Isabelle is the one who is very wary of everyone you date. She does background checks and warns you if she finds something slightly suspicious. You think she's overdoing the big sister thing a little, but in a way, it's also very sweet that she looks after you like that.

Isabelle is not the only one looking after you. Alec looks after you too, although he does it in his own way. He's not that much of a talker, especially not when it comes to feelings, but he's the one who taught you everything you know about archery, about fighting, about defending yourself. If Alec can, he keeps you away from hard and complicated missions, if he can't keep you out of it he will always make sure that he or his sister are coming with you. If that isn't possible, he only trusts Jace to have your back. When Alec falls in love with Magnus and is afraid of your parent's reaction, you are the one telling him that if he doesn't feel comfortable telling them yet, that's fine. You don't want to push him and you know that love is a big thing for Alec. But, when Alec almost marries Lydia, you are the one who tells Isabelle to call Magnus. You don't want him to end in an unhappy relationship for the rest of his life, just because he's a Lightwood. Not being able to show one part of yourself is one thing, but having to live a life that goes against everything you are, you don't want that for Alec, or Isabelle, or Max or yourself.

But just when you thought that you had survived all storms, you discover that your dad has been cheating on your mom. Even though you have a complicated relationship with your parents and have always been afraid that you aren't good enough for them, you do feel sorry for your mother and you are angry with your father. When you discover that Isabelle knew you don't know for a little while what to say or what to do. You understand why she had not told you, but you and Isabelle always share everything. When you discover that she didn't tell Alec either, you do feel a little better though and you realize that it must have been very hard for her to know all of it and to not be able to talk about it with anyone.
