"I am not listening to this! The team need me," Damian barked as he stormed off into the elevator. Irey crossed her arms and followed the teen into the elevator. "Yeah well, my team needs me too!" Damian hit the button that would take the elevator to the roof and the doors slid shut. They both awkwardly stood as far apart as possible in a small elevator built for three people, as catchy music played. Damian held his scowl the whole way until the elevator came to a crashing stop.
The lights blinked off and the elevator shook before landing in between floors. Damian, with his quick reflexes, held onto the walls to keep himself from loosing his balance. Irey, on the other hand, fell flat on her butt with the elevator. Rubbing her sore tail bone, she looked up at Damian, who was inspecting the control panel. "What happened?" She asks, finally breaking the silence. Damian didn't respond for a few moments. "The power is out," he replies and grabs his communicator from his utility belt. "Titans, this is Robin, come in." Within minutes, Lian was responding, "Speedy here. Where the hell are you guys!? Some robotics expert built a huge robot that's attacking the tower. The whole team is with me, but we need you both here!" How Lian could keep a calm and level head in dangerous situations always made Irey proud and amazed.
"The robot must be draining the power from the city. We're both stuck in the elevator in Titan tower. If you split up, take Jai to the power plant and switch off all of the energy. While Chris gets that thing away from the city," Damian instructs, taking on his leader role immediately. Irey looks up at him in awe. She loves the fierce look in his eyes and how he puts others before himself. It's what drew her to him. Lian responded, saying she'd follow the plan. Irey sighed and didn't bother to get up from her spot on the elevator floor. Instead, she sat with her back against the wall and wrapped her arms around her knees and resting her head on her knee. She watched Damian from the corner of her eye as he tried to fix the elevator. Damian, getting frustrated easily, quickly gave up and sat on the floor, glaring at the doors, willing them to open.
"I..I'm sorry, Dami.." Irey couldn't look him in the eyes as she apologised. She felt awful. Damian awkwardly squirmed in the spot he sat in. They both sat in silence for a few minutes. "My father called me," Damian finally said. Irey finally got the courage to look up at the sidekick. Damian just continued to stare at the doors, but his face was scowling and his fists bawled up tight. Irey knew that Damian had a strained relationship with his father and never talked about it. "He.. Asked me to come home... He told me I was being ridiculous, after all, I am only thirteen and he is in charge of me until my eighteenth birthday," Damian talks through gritted teeth. Irey knew how Damian had left when he was twelve to join the Titans and his father had been against the idea. And even worse when he told him his son was dating a speedster. Irey did the only thing she knew how. She scooted closer to the Boy Wonder and gave him a tight hug. Damian was caught of guard and his anger melted away.
"I'm sorry I'm so strong headed," she giggles and Damian fights a smile. "When we get out of here I'll treat you to a pizza." Damian smirks. "You mean you'll treat yourself to a pizza and I get to watch," they both laugh and Irey smiles at him brightly. Damian blushes. Suddenly, the lights go back on and the elevator begins to move again. Irey smirks and they both stand up. Ready to take the criminal to jail then head to their date.
"I'm glad we started dating."
"I am too..."
