Dawn

Sudden dawn presses against the horizon,

Beaming rays of light that shine on a dismal scene

Eyes bloodshot, swollen, and salted

Wrung dry of emotion

Closed to the world before them

Her thoughts are

Rolling credits

Each harrowing notion

Grows larger by the second

Slowly but surely consuming her

She longs for the touch of a past love

Recently left behind

A fragmented memory

A person scored on her heart.

Guilt blankets her body, leaving

Regret that sits heavily in her chest.

She was the one who abandoned ship,

Due to the fear of one day being

The abandoned ship.

Dawn marked the birth of a fresh start

A new beginning

The light brought warmth to her

So she needed not to

Rely on the body of another

All is well when the sun is awake

But when sunset approaches,

She remembers why she is afraid of the dark.
