Connor didn't know that he was going to be here.

It wasn't that he hated Jared Kleinman- he was just- kinda scared of him.

There was no doubt that Connor could take Jared in a fight, of course, but he was just kind of nervous around him because Jared was very- protective- of Connor's boyfriend, Evan.

So when he knocked on Evan's door and Jared answered, you could see why he would be a little taken aback.

Jared showed no emotion on his face when he opened the door to see Connor.

Connor, on the other hand, jumped back and looked Jared up and down.

"What are you doing here?" he snarled.

Jared glared back.

"Not my idea," he muttered.

At that moment, Evan stepped up from behind Jared and smiled. The two boys quickly put smiles on their faces, too, but Evan had seen them glaring at each other, so it wasn't really helpful.

"G-guys?" Evan said, a little tremble in his voice, "c-can you come in? I-I need to talk a-about something to y-you two."

Connor and Jared nodded and walked into the house, following Evan to his living room.

"Um," Evan said nervously, "I-I don't really l-like it when you guys f-fight all the time? Be-because you're both my friends? S-so I invited y-you guys here so we can w-work it out."

Connor and Jared tried not to show the disappointment on their faces, but, unfortunately for them, it showed. Evan laughed a little.

"Um, I'm gonna go u-use the bathroom, then I'll g-get us some snacks," Evan told the two, standing up. "B-be right back." With that, Evan left the room.

The moment he was gone, Connor felt two hands grip his shoulders and looked up to see himself staring into the face of Jared.

"Listen up, Murphy," Jared snarled, "here's what's going to happen: I can't stop you from dating Evan, but I can ruin your life if I need to. You will not get within 3 feet of him. You will not tease him, even if it's playfully. You will not hurt him or break his heart. You will not break up with him, only he can break up with you. You will not-"

Connor sighed a little and pushed Jared off him with ease.

"Listen, Jared," he said, looking the other boy in the eyes, "I know we don't get along, and I hope we can work on that, but I will never do anything to Evan. He means the whole fucking world to me, I will ask for consent every time, I will not break his heart, I won't talk about things he doesn't like. The purpose of me is to be a good boyfriend, Jared, I'm not going to fail at that like I fail at everything else."

Jared stopped glaring for a moment and stared at Connor.

"Hm," he said thoughtfully. "You won't hurt our tree baby?"

Connor smiled a little.

"I'd die before I did that."

Jared looked at Connor with confusion, yet satisfaction at the same time. Maybe he wasn't all that bad, after all. Just as he was about to answer, however, the two heard a chuckle from the doorway and looked to see Evan, blushing.

"A-are you two done?" he asked.

Connor and Jared both blushed and laughed a little too.

"I guess so," Connor said. Evan smiled. He couldn't believe how lucky he was to have Connor as his boyfriend.

Suddenly, he felt a surge of confidence. He put down the tray he was carrying and strode up to Connor.

"You have my consent," he murmured, then pressed their lips together.

Connor gasped a little, then sunk into the kiss willingly. All Jared could do was make gagging noises.

"Oh, shut it, Kleinman," Connor whispered when the two broke apart.
