A Promise

I made a promise, awhile ago,

that when night came, I'd be there for you.

"I promise," I said, staring straight into your eyes

And you, in return, gave me a small smile,

For you knew, deep in your heart, I would never lie.

And now, that time has come,

I wanted to remind you of what I said so long ago.

Don't worry; I'll be there for you.

And as you lay, don't fade away,

Leave this place with confidence, and as you do,

Remember to make sure that you made a difference.

For winter has come, and it is time, we must let go, both you, and I,

To travel to a faraway place.

And I know, that when my time comes,

You'll be there for me.
