Harry woke up in his dormitory, momentarily feeling a little lost. He took a look around the room. His bed was next to Dudley's. Each bed was in a little nook with a window- which had blue curtains. Next to each bed was a desk on one side, which had a bookcase built in above it, and a wardrobe to the other, with built in draws. Harry stroked the sheets, then went to get dressed, he didn't wake Dudley, as he knew Dudley often needed more sleep than he did. There were other boys in his dorm, but he could help but wish Ron was one of them.

After dressing, he wrote a letter to his mother.

Hi mum,

It's me, Harry. I've just woken up in the Ravenclaw dorms. I hope you don't mind me being in Ravenclaw. I know you and dad were bith Griffindor, as were all of your friends. Again, I hope you don't mind.

I've made a new friend. Her name is Hermione Granger, she is also a Ravenclaw. She is really friendly, she is great. Ron was a Hufflepuff, I hope he wasn't too upset! We are still mates, though, and Puffs have most lessons with us, so we'll see each other loads anyway- I guess this is a good excuse to hang out in the library more!

Love you and see you at Christmas.

Harry gave Hedwig the letter and she soared out of the window, hooting merrily as she went. Dudley woke up feeling very hungry, so he quickly washed and dressed, and both boys headed to the common room. They met Hermione there, she was staring up at the huge bookcase, talking to a prefect, who said that all students left their favourite book there so others could read them too. Hermione loved that idea. Any book could be borrowed, taken anywhere, as long as it was returned so others could enjoy them. The three of them headed down to breakfast.

As they arrived, professor Flitwick handed them timetables.

"Transfiguration, charms, break, double potions, lunch, flying, free, end of school day, free time commences, dinner, curfew: 10pm- 9 for first and second years." Hermione read. "All lessons with Hufflepuff, except flying, where we are all together as it is such a small yeargroup."

After breakfast, they headed to transfiguration, which was started off by a long talk by professor McGonnagal. They were all given a matchstick to turn into a needle, which Harry and Dudley did first time, both earning 20 points for Ravenclaw, Hermione did hers 5 minutes later and earned a further 10 points. Charms went very much the same. At break, they went down to the kitchens (Sirius told them how) and the second they entered, 10 elves asked what they required. Harry requested some food for break, and they ran off, and gave each of the three a ham sandwich, a cheese sandwich, an apple, and a cookie (chocolate chip) and they headed out to the courtyard, where they met Ron and offered to break off some sandwich or cookie for him. He refused and walked away.

Double potions was uneventful. Snape ralked the through the calming draught, and they all brewed it. Harry, Dudley and Hermione earned 15 points each for a perfet potion. Ron glared at them, his potion was hissing and smelling of burnt tar.

After lunch they had a flying lesson. This was probably the best lesson yet, as all 4 houses were there. Everyone headed to their closest broom.

"Good morning class. I'm Professor Hooch and I'll be your flying instructor. Now, all step un to the ledt hand side of your broom, put your hand over it, and say up. Harry and Dudley got their brooms to rise immediately.

"Bet you expected 20 housepoints for that, eh Potter?" Draco shouted over.

Harry sighed. Once everyone had mounted their brooms, professor Hooch told them to lift off, hover for a second, then tap back down. Neville, in his rush to try, shot like a cork, up like a rocket.... down like the rain. he hit the floor with a bang. Professor Hooch escorted him to the infirmary, and as soon as he had left, Draco picked up the rememberall Neville had dropped.

"Hey, Neville has a rememberall! I wonder how he remembered how to use it?" Draco mocked, taking off. He was followed by Harry.

"Give it here, Malfoy."

"Never!"

The chase was on, around the area they flew, until Draco hurled it towards the brick wall. Harry sped after it and deftly caught it one handed. As he landed, several teachers left the school. Professor Snape collared Malfoy and led him inside, and the others talked to Harry. He earned 3 saturday detentions with Hagrid- and a spot as Seeker in the Ravenclaw quiddich team.

All in all, the first day was a sucess, and Harry was popular among the Ravenclaws, all except Hermione, who disapproved of the flying act. The three of them headed towards the school, heading in the direction of the library. They sat down in a corner by a window overlooking the grounds.
"What do you make of lessons?" Dudley asked.
"I hope it gets harder." Harry answered, and Hermione nodded in agreement.
They opened their text books, and began looking ahead to see what else they could learn. Harry stood up.
"Back in a sec." He muttered.
He wandered through the shelves, picking up a few books. Returning to the table, he placed them down next to Hermione, who looked carefully at them.
"Defensive spell work? Are you sure you want to learn curses?"
"They may be useful, think about Voldemort. What if another dark lord came? What then?"
"True."
They began to look at spells, until someone tapped them on the shoulder, telling them that there was only a minute until dinner started.
That night, they crawled into bed exhausted, but pleased with the days work.
