Hybrid

Chapter 6

Edgar has a horrible smile on his face. "Thought you could get away, huh? Well that's too bad, because we're not finished with you yet. My father, he owns this school. I'll make sure your punishment is extra bad." Tato cowers and lowers his head submissively, but I look Edgar straight in the eyes. "I don't intend to ever come back, and your in my way." I bare my teeth at him. He doesn't back down. Instead he raises his voice.

"THEY'RE ESCAPING!"

I roar and shift, lunging at him as a lion. "Erisa we don't have time!" Tato says, shifting as well. I claw at Edgar, leaving a long scratch on his arm. He yells out and me and Tato run.

There are a few people behind us, chasing us with darts. An alarm goes off, because for some reason this rich school has an alarm? Animals must have escaped before. Kids from clubs lock doors along the hallways.

I grip Tato in my mouth softly, because he couldn't run very fast with those small legs. He stiffens but I ignore it. I wasn't going to eat him or anything. We run to the doors, only to find hem locked. We were cornered now.

It's not wise to corner an animal.

I drop Tato and lunge at the people surrounding us. I dodge darts and nets, clawing everybody back. Then I turn to the doors and run at them, slamming my broad shoulders into them, breaking the locks. I grab Tato again and run, only a few people follow. I hear someone calling the police, someone calling an ambulance, and someone calling animal control.

I bound away, using every ounce of energy and more to escape. We run for what seems like hours. Soon, though, we are safe in an alleyway. We lost the people chasing us, but we heard sirens in the distance.

I lay down, shifting, and I pull my hoodie over my head, using it as a pillow of sorts against the wall. Soon I fall asleep, as does Tato.
