Over the next week, Clary and Jess became public. Everyone in Stars Hollow knew. Clary didn't like that everyone was so interested in her relationship with Jess. People would always come up to her and ask her if she was dating Jess, even though they already knew the answer. Kirk was the nosiest, but I think he got the memo to stop asking Clary questions because the last time he asked something she walked away from him without saying anything.
After about two weeks the curiosity the town had for their relationship died down.
"Clary!" Jess yelled down the street as she was walking.
It was Saturday morning and the autumn breeze brushed through Clary's brown hair.
Clary immediately knew who it was and turned around with a big smile on her face.
He walked up to her and put his arm around her.
"I think we should go somewhere." He said.
Clary raised her eyebrows. "Like where?"
"Somewhere far away where nobody seems to be in our business." Jess slightly yelled as they walked by some girls who were clearly talking about them.
Clary laughed as they turned a corner.
"Sorry but I'm running an errand for my mom." She said once she was done laughing.
"What kind of errand." He asked sadly.
"I have to buy some crackers." She said.
"For what?" He asked trying not to laugh.
"My mom's sick so the only thing she can eat is crackers and ramen noodles." She said stopping in front of Doose's.
"Oh, well I should probably get back to the diner before everyone starts coming in for lunch." He said while looking through the market windows.
"Okay." She said.
Jess kissed her lightly on the lips, then turned and started walking back to the diner.
Clary opened the door to Doose's market, walked in, and went straight to the cracker and chips aisle. She searched until she found some saltines. Dean popped out from behind the next aisle.
"Hey Clary." He said smiling.
Dean was wearing the green apron that says Doose's Market across the front. He's worked their for awhile now.
"Hey Dean. How's it going?" Clary asked being friendly.
"It's going good." He said smiling. "Hey, can I tell you something?"
"Yeah, sure." Clary asked hesitantly.
"I don't like the idea of you and Jess." He said quickly.
There it was. Another person who disapproves of her dating Jess. Clary should've been surprised to hear it, but she wasn't.
"Why does it matter to you." She asked sharply.
"I'm just worried that he's trouble." He said. "You're Rory's sister so I care about you too. All I'm saying is that Jess gets in trouble at school a lot, and I don't want him to hurt you or anything."
"I don't need protection, Dean." She said feeling her anger rise. "So what if he gets in trouble a lot. We've all gotten in trouble before. He's a good person and would never hurt me."
"Okay." Dean said sounding worried.
Clary walked over to the check out line, payed for the crackers, and walked out of Doose's still feeling angry.
Who's business is it to tell her that they don't like her dating Jess? She was so angry that when she walked into the street she didn't see a car coming. The car slammed on its breaks and honked at her.
"Sorry!" Clary said walking faster.
When she walked into Luke's she went straight to the counter and sat down. Luke walked over to her.
"Are you alright? You look a little... angry." Luke said with a weird look on his face.
"I'm not angry." Clary said trying to stay calm. "I just want coffee."
Luke just looked at her with the same weird look without saying anything else. He poured her some coffee, then left to pour somebody else some.
A moment later Jess came over and sat by her. He stared at her intently for a moment.
"Something's wrong. What's wrong?" He asked with a concerned tone.
"I'm fine." She said not looking at him.
Jess grabbed her hand and took her outside. "Now please tell me what's wrong." He said when he turned and faced her.
"It's stupid how everyone can care so much about a relationship that's not even theirs." She said quietly, still not looking at him.
"Who said something to you?" Jess said quickly.
"Dean." She said.
A sudden look of anger ran across Jess's face, but quickly went away.
"Who cares what everyone else thinks." He said while pulling her in for a hug. "People are stupid."
Clary didn't say anything else. Jess went back to the diner, and she went back home realizing that she never brought her mom the crackers.
When she walked into Luke's the next morning, Jess had a black eye.
