Chapter 13 - Volcanic

He looked angry staring at the brick wall in the kitchen. He was pacing up and down and he looked volcanically mad.

It was already late and night and I couldn't help but feel guilty for that fact, but in my defense I'd have thought he'd have been away longer.

"Hey Cal, when did you get back?" I decided to ignore the elephant in the room, which was probably unwise. I watched as Caleb's eyes narrowed significantly.

"Are you having a fucking laugh right now?" His voice was harsh and sharp and he looked ready to blow up with anger at any second. His eyes were a deep glaring sapphire colour and flecks of gold were pecking through the service.

I could tell that his wolf was trying to rise.

Either way I couldn't help but shrink back at his anger. I was currently cold and wet after swimming through the river seperating our compound from the next.

I shivered slightly, weather from the actual cold or from Caleb's tone of voice.

"I thought you'd be gone longer and I'd have enough time to get back without you noticing" I replied weakly, that was apparently my well justified excuse for why I'd been gone to whole weekend.

"Gone!? Gone!? I hope you realise now that I'm never truely gone and that I have eyes and ears everywhere" His words were delivered in a condensing tone and did nothing but ignite my own anger. I was basically a child to him.

"Why does it matter anyway, it's not like you really care, your just trying to put up a front for the pack. Besides it doesn't matter what I did this weekend because it's over and It's not like I ran away never to be seen again"

The mention of me running did nothing but fill his eyes with more anxiety and anger. More gold took over his eyes, yet I could tell he was still in control.

I stared anywhere but him, the pristine golden chandelier on the ceiling, the antique paintings on the wall, the aging rug on the floor-

"Would you look at me!" My eyes flipped up to his at the outburst of his angry tone. One of the veins in his head looked just about ready to pop any minute now.

"Don't you realise I care more than you could ever know? Don't you realise when you were gone you were the first thing I thought about when I woke up and the last when I went to sleep, it was a constant cycle and it never stopped, the worry the anxiety, you somewhere I wasn't. I don't understand even after all this time how you could think I don't care" His voice had started off rough and harsh before levelling to a soft timbre, which did nothing but thaw me to him.

My own anger shrivelled up and died in that moment as I gazed into his sapphire orbs. The gold had receded immensely.

"But then you went a put yourself up against dangers from the other worlds, ones I can't control. There are bigger badder beasts than me, love" It seemed he was trying a new tactic of getting his words across to me. He was seeming to try it in a softer and more controlled voice and I hated to admit it but his words were finally registering in my brain.

However, just because his words were now finally registering in my head didn't mean I was going to let him dictate me. He might've been trying to help me, but a stubborn part of me needed to find these things out for myself.

"Why did you lie" the words were thrown out of my mouth like a dart and they had the intending effect of hitting his jagged heart.

His eyes darkened significantly before he pinned a gaze so voltile it made me wish I hadn't asked in the first place.
