Marinette would be lying if she said she wasn't enjoying this moment. Adrien was truly her hero. Ever since she arrived at this stupid town, Adrien had been there for her. No matter what stupid situation it was, he was there. And she hoped it would stay that way. Nathaniel never seemed to care about her like this. He never seemed to be where he should've.
More foot steps approached.
Sweet Jesus how many people want to embarrass me today?!?!
Marinette looked up to see a slightly darker skinned boy. His short dark brown hair was covered by a baseball cap. His brown eyes staring straight at the two on the ground. He wore a t-shirt and jeans.
"Adrien?" the boy spoke up, his brow arched in confusion.
Adrien let go of the crying girl and turned to the boy, before smiling like a goof.
"Nino! You're finally back!!" Adrien got up to meet the boys height.
"Yeah man! What's going on?" It took Nino a second to realize what had happened.
"Oh no, Brooklyn?" Nino looked towards Adrien, before glancing back at Marinette.
"Yeah. This is Marinette, she's the new student from Paris. Marinette, this is Nino, the one I showed you a picture of." Adrien smiled back at her, she hid her face in her hands.
"Hmm, guess she didn't get a very good welcome huh." Nino sighed and shook his head.
Adrien looked back at Marinette.
Maybe we should stop talking about her."Where have you been Nino?" Adrien asked, changing the subject.
"Dude, I was so sick I thought I was dying." Nino exaggerated by putting his hand to his chest and coughing.
"What was wrong with you?" Adrien asked, concerned yet still playful.
"I have no idea, but doctor said it was contagious so I couldn't come back to school for a while. I couldn't text or call you because mom says,' Nino if you get those sick germs on this, then you could get sick again'." Nino rolled his eyes.
"Well why didn't you come to school today? Adrien questioned.
"Doctor said to wait one more day, even if I was feeling better." Nino explained to him.
"Then what are you doing here now?" Adrien wiggled his eyebrows.
"I was picking up Leah." Nino pushed Adrien away laughing.
"Oooo, what happened???" Adrien teased.
"I could ask you the same thing." Nino whispered pointing to Marinette.
"I was comforting her." Adrien told him.
Marinette looked up at then with red puffy eyes.
Nino continued his story.
"Leah told me she was gonna ride home with her friend Sarah today instead." Nino sighed
"She's not really my type, but who else could I be with?" Nino shrugged.
Marinette got the courage to speak up. There was really nothing she could say that would embarrass her more then now. Even if it could, it wouldn't really matter at this point.
"You have to be patient." Marinette spoke up.
The two boys looked down at her. Their eyes seemed to be piercing through her. Though they didn't seem to be judging her, she still felt uncomfortable. Marinette stood up, not nearly meeting their height, why was everyone so tall?
Still.
She continued on."I mean look at me." she gestured to her mud covered body.
"I tried to rush into being popular, something I now realize I couldn't give a crap about. And I got covered in mud. I trusted in someone I knew I shouldn't. I know what it's like to date someone just because they are the only person there. But the difference between you and me, is I didn't realize that person wasn't who I wanted. And I got heart broken. And it sucked." Marinette looked down to her feet, fighting back more tears."You've probably already made assumptions about the kind of person I am. A weak being, stupid and trusts in people too much. And you're probably right. But if my stupid mistakes can help you, I'd say it was worth it." Marinette smiled, with true happiness.
Adrien and Nino stared at her blankly, her confidence slowly drifting away. Finally, Nino spoke up.
"You're right Marinette. You're really smart, you know that?" Nino smiled at her. Her heart felt warm, hearing something so kind.
"You should see her in class, she finishes work faster than me!!! And she's two years younger!" Adrien smiled at Marinette.
"I might wanna copy off of you now dudette!" Nino and Adrien laughed, and Marinette just grinned.
These two were good friends it seemed, like her and Alya. Nino seemed pretty chill.....maybe Alya would like him too. He was pretty cute, though he wasn't Marinette's type. At the moment, no one was Marinette's type.....right?
"We probably shouldn't be hanging out at school after hours." Nino sighed.
"Wait a second, what time is it!?!?!" Marinette shuffled her phone out of her bag, and looked at the time.
3:30
"Oh shhhii." without warning, Marinette took off in the direction of the school.
"Wait up!!" Adrien called, running after her, followed by Nino.
She arrived back in the parking lot, to find that the buses were gone, along with all of the students.
"Oh my god. This day cannot get any worse." Marinette face palmed just as the two boys came bounding over to her. They breathed heavily, struggling to get a good amount of air.
"How did you run that fast?" Nino asked, leaning over and finally managing to catch his breath.
"I missed the bus." Marinette closed her eyes, processing the moment.
"Oh..." Nino stared blankly into the parking lot.
"I could give you a ride."
Marinette whipped around to look at Adrien, who was holding his keys in his hand. Her face turned red.
"O-oh y-you don't h- have to do that.." Marinette stuttered. It was a simple offer, so why did it make her heart speed up? He was just being nice....
"How else will you get home?" Adrien questioned her.
He had a point. How else was she gonna get home? She could walk, but she would most likely get lost on her way. She would be picked up my a random man, wake up in an abandoned shed, be tortured and die a slow and painful death.....okay maybe not. But still, she would much rather get a ride than walk.
"Ok...I guess there's no harm in getting a ride home...."
