"Bye Ryan." I waved at him as he continued to walk down the street. "Later, loser." I cracked a smile inserting the key into the door knob. I threw my bag onto the floor not caring much about it. "Mooom, Daaad, I'm home!" I yelled waiting for their response. "In the kitchen, dear." The scent of fresh lasagna aired through my nostrils. "How was school?" My dad asked from the counter. "However it's supposed to be." He raised an eyebrow at me, he did that when he thought I gave him attitude, when really I do that all the time. "Well I mean, how is it supposed to be, good?? bad??" I asked confused in my own words. He simply laughed at me, "I'm just kidding with ya, I know school sucks." I loved how he understood me instead of being stuck up. "Don't encourage her." My mother said sternly. "What are we celebrating?" I asked, once again taking in the amazing smell of my mothers cooking. "Do we have to be celebrating in order for me to cook something delicious for my loving family?" I grinned and shrugged at her, "Well, a family has recently moved into the neighborhood, right next door and I went to welcome them this morning, I took the chance to invite them for dinner tonight." Hm they already sold the house next door? I practically begged Ryan so he would convince his parents to move into that house since he lived a block away but his parents didn't necessarily have time to he switching houses. "Do I have to be apart of this?" I hated having to be around elder strangers; humans in general. "Honey, please don't start, let's make them feel welcomed." She said giving me a sincere look. "You have dad!" I swung my arms and pointed at him. "You're showing up and that's final." I knew it would be pointless to argue with her so I groaned as loud as I could until I reached my room and flopped on my bed. Oh this day couldn't get any better. Most Friday's are better than this one. I checked the time on my nightstand and it was barely 2:57 which gave me enough time to do absolutely nothing until dinner tonight. I stood up looking around my room, it was a disaster. Clothes everywhere, books half opened all over the floor, CDs and journals scattered around, all my junk on top of my desk and I knew there were a couple boxes under my bed filled with our pieces of junk and shit. Well, might as well clean now. I sat on the floor cross-legged as I pulled a box from underneath my bed. I slightly started opening it and found a bunch of papers and a photo album. The papers were poems and "songs" I had written about a year ago. I used to do it to somehow express myself in a creative way. I held the photo album in my hand, deciding whether to look through it or not. I decided not to. I don't want to remind myself of my past.

I sighed, nothing to do nothing to do. I reached for the book that laid across the middle of my room and without a hesitate, walked out my room. "Hey have you seen my OBEY hoodie?" I jumped when I heard my brother's, Alex, voice. "God damn." I said under my breath, holding onto the left side of my chest. "Did I scare ya?" He smirked raising an eyebrow at me whilst he leaned against the door frame. "And yet you ask why I hate you." I said glaring at him. "Have you though?" He asked me again, this time with a pleading look. "Yeah, it's in my room somewhere." I said pointing in the direction which my room was. "Why is it in there?" He asked confused. "Because - i might have taken it?" I gave him a cheeky smile. "But it's mine, you mushroom head!" He said as he lunged himself on me, choking me and scratching his knuckles on my head. "I'm going to beat you up if you don't quit it." I warned him, struggling to get his arms off my neck. "Aw sure, my wittle baby sister is going to bweat me up." He said pouting at me, finally getting off me. "I'd love to stay and chat but you're a total idiot." I rolled my eyes and headed down downstairs into the patio. I strolled across our large backyard until I reached our big lemon tree. I reached for a thick dark branch and pulled myself over, reaching for another branch and then pulling myself higher and higher. My feet stood on a single thick branch and i began to climb the string ladder my dad had made. I reached the last string on the ladder and used my arms to drag myself on the wooden floor. Yep, this was my tree house. Sounds lame, right? But i dont care, i loved coming up here for myself to either read a book in peace, listen to my music with no one talking to me, or just simply write. Anyways, im lame, what do you expect from me. I sunk into pit of pillows I had against the left corner and opened up my book. A cold breeze made me shiver since I sat right next to the "window" that was built in here. I threw a pillow over myself and continued to read my book.

"I just don't want to." I groaned pulling myself up the stairs. "There has to be a reason why you don't." My mother insisted, following me around the house. I spun around, angry now, "Okay, I don't want to go 'cause I don't want to meet the stupid neighbors that invited us, there you happy!" My mothers face summed up what she must've felt; shock. But I didn't care, I've had it with my family. First they drag me all the way to California because it was "for the best" and now they want me to socialize with boring old people? No thank you. I slammed my door shut and locked it so no one would bother me anymore. I lunged on my bed and stared at the ceiling. I missed my home. Overall I missed my girlfriend. She's the only reason I wanted to stay back at home. I mean, she broke up with me after I lost my popularity but it was all my fault. This whole thing was stupid. Moving here was stupid. I sighed, looking out the window. The house next door looked almost the same as ours, exactly coordinated but the colors were different and they had a larger patio too. They even had a lemon tree and a tree house? There was someone inside, a girl. Her dark hair covered a portion of her face as the wind blew it all over the place. Her tan skin glowed against the sun light and she had cheeks like a baby squirrel. My head flew back onto my bed, ignoring the girl outside.

It was worthless.

I felt a burning desire to know who she was. I jumped off my bed and hurried out my door into our patio. I looked at the little old tree we had and climbed right up. It was perfect view, I could see her. The wind blew softly and it rattled the leaves. I took a closer look at her. She looked so beautiful. The way she looked so simple, made her look - beautiful. I shook my head bringing me back to reality and jumped off the tree making it shake up and down. I walked back into the kitchen where I found my mom reading a magazine. "Mom, I'm sorry for what I did. To make it up to you, dinner at the neighbors tonight?"

I heard the leaves rattle loudly and I snapped my head right up. I could've sworn someone was watching me. Whatever, I better go inside I've been out here for hours, it's almost dinner time. I climbed down the tree carefully and excitedly. "There you are hunny, please go clean up." My mom held my shoulders nervously. I guess she wanted everything perfect for tonight. I walked upstairs, straight for the bathroom me and my brother shared. Miracle he wasn't locked up in here yet. I quickly showered and did my hair, basically just brushed it and made a few loose curls here and there. I walked next door into my room and shoved through everything towards my closet. I laid just a simple black t-shirt and light washed jeans on my bed and scavenged under my bed for my black converse. I put everything on, checked myself on the mirror and rushed downstairs. Everyone was laying on the couch, not really caring that people were coming over, except my mother of course. She was still in the kitchen making things look perfect. As soon as I jumped on our big couch, the doorbell rang. "Can someone please get that? It must be the neighbors!" My mother shouted from inside the kitchen. "Your turn." Both my dad and brother said turning towards me. I groaned, getting up from the couch. I took a deep breath before opening the door and twisted the door knob. Immediately, a woman greeted me with such excitement. "Hello dear. Um you must be Dorothy's daughter." She smiled at me. Her voice had an accent I've never heard before. "Why else would I be here." I said in a hard emotionless way. She stood there dumbfounded and I suddenly felt guilty for being a little too harsh. "Well, come on in." I opened the door wider allowing both an elder man and woman in. My dad and Alex bolted right off their butts as soon as the neighbors stepped inside. "Pardon my sister," Alex looked at me then back at our guests, "she's a little rascal but I have this theory that she might even be adopted." He giggled to myself but my dad found that nowhere near funny so he just glared at him. My mom immediately rushed into the living room after my brothers unnecessary comment. She smiled widely at our guests as the women presented herself again.
"Hello, we're the Grier's."
