Dear Lamia,
And there concludes my entry to The Misfortunes of Lolita one-shot contest. I apologise profusely for it being slightly over 3,000 words, and hope you won't thus ban this entry from being included in the array of wonderful stories!
I really wanted to input my thoughts on the entire story and how genuinely incredible it is, and how much it's actually impacted my life despite it literally just being a little story from Wattpad (hopefully to become a worldwide bestseller, of course).
So, Lamia, thank you so much. For creating a lifetime of adoration and love in me that I couldn't imagine ever having, thank you for opening up my creativity (through this one-shot competition, but through the story in general!) and thank you for using Lolita as a character: I had never come across someone different, someone - well, not white - in a story so beautifully worded as yours before, and although being white myself, I got to appreciate what it feels like to be a part of a different, extremely intricate and fascinating culture such as Lolita's.
The thing that got me most, and still, arguably, gets me most to this day is the words you use. They're a simple thing, words, anyone can use them and they can be put to equally good and bad uses, but you use words in such a way that I can't recognise them as simply just words anymore. When I initially read this story (and have read it many times since), I remember screenshotting sentences I loved, adored with all my heart, and sharing them with my friends. One that's always struck a chord with me is when Lolita says to Frank, "You've won the genetic lottery," which I died over so many times that I eventually made it my lockscreen on my phone, haha.
It's safe to say that this story means so much to me. It inspired me to create stories which didn't contain conventionally pretty girls in it, alongside the conventionally handsome boy whom would both fall in love: no, instead, I now create stories where everything's slightly fucked up - I'm not sure whether this is for the best or the worst, you decide - but the main point is, you taught me different from anyone else. I still cannot wrap my head around Frank's inner dialogue of Lolita never being pretty, or him going insane because of the smallest things. I really adore that, Lamia. I can't exactly pinpoint why, but it's just incredible. Thank you.
And with that, I want to say thank you to you, Lamia, of course, for creating such a masterpiece, and to Frank and Lolita, actually, for being such figures in my life at a time where I barely knew figures like that could exist.
Yours,
