Obstacle Course

4 weeks after Aizawa's announcement.

Miri's PoV
"Aren't you excited?" Yu asks, putting on her shirt.

"Of course! I just hope I don't suck." I laugh with her.

When we walk into school, everyone is just as excited as us. Bakugo and I decided on that ice cream day (over text, later that day) to battle every day. It's made me stronger. But it's made him even more stronger.

Yu and I take our seats.

Yu is literally bouncing in her seat, and Kirishima notices. "Hey, Yu!" he says to her.

"Hi! Uh.." she turns to him and freezes. "...Kirishima."

"You seemed really excited just now!"

She shakes off her daze and responds, "Well it's just that ever since attending classes here, I've had so much more fun than what I- did.. with the..." she trails off, and doesn't say 'villains.'

He lightly pats her back with a wide smile. "Well the past's in the past! Now you're here with us and our friend!"

Her mouth and nose transform into her beak. I'm starting to realize that sometimes happens without her trying to. "Thanks..." she turns her face and covers it with her hand.

As soon as Kirishima turns away from her, I twist in my seat to face her. "Haha, Yu, the love of your life spoke to you!" All I get is a soft giggle in return.

The door to the classroom opens.

"Okay guys, today is the sports festival. Good luck and do good." Aizawa says after walking in. "Go get changed into your gym uniforms."

After getting dressed, we meet up with the rest of the class.

Everyone's either sitting down, or talking to their friends, when Todoroki gets up and walks to Izuku.
"Midoriya," he calls.

"What is it Todoroki?" Izuku answers.

"I think that in terms of practical strength, I'm stronger than you." He tells him.

"What? Um..yeah!" Midoriya nervously responds.

"I've noticed that you've managed to get All Might's eyes on you. I don't want to pry, but. I'm going to beat you," he says with a straight face. "I didn't come here to make friends."

"I don't know what you want from me, but..." Izuku starts. "You are stronger than most students here at UA, but everyone else here is aiming for the top, so I still will try hard with all my might!"

"Let's go guys, time to go!" Ida walks in.
And then, as we walk onto the stadium, Present Mic announces, "And here's the class we all came for! Class 1A of the heroics department!" There's a lot of cheering after that.

After the cheering dies down, and all the classes announced, The R-rated hero Midnight walks up to the stage. I hear some boys from our class talking about if her costume is appropriate for 9th graders.

"Okay! Let's get started! May the class rep, Katsuki Bakugo please come up!" She says into her microphone.

"The class representative is Kacchan!?" Izuku exclaims.

"Well, he did place first in the entrance exam." Sero reminds him.

"Yeah, the heroics exam," a kid from another class sneers.

Once Katsuki reaches the stage, he announces in the microphone with no emotion, "I'm gonna win."

"What? What was that!? Bakugo, that is not a speech. You are making all students in the class 1A heroics department look bad!" Ida waves his hands wildly at Katsuki.

"Whatever." Katsuki shrugs his shoulders.

A lot of hate comes his way from the crowd. I see Katsuki scanning the crowd.
Come on, come on. Please look at me.

Finally his eyes land on me. I wink at him before giving him two thumbs up. He half-smiles back.

"Who's he smiling at?" A kid from another class asks. Then a bunch of students try tracing where his eyes are aimed. I shake my head fiercely trying to get him to look away. But he doesn't. I give up and hide behind Yu. He's really trying to put me on the spot, huh.

Thankfully, everyone stops trying to figure out who he was looking at. Katsuki comes back and stands next to me.

I lightly unch him and dramatically say, "Oh, the embarrassment that was to come!" I place my hand on my forehead, my palm facing out.

"Don't be so overdramatic," he replies, subtly shaking his head.

"Ok guys!" Midnight says. "The first part will be an obstacle course around the school!" She goes on to explain the rules, then everyone gets to their starting positions.

When everyone is at the starting line, and the race is about to start, I make a mini plan in my head.
Blast my way through. Freeze people. Jump.

I turn to Yu, who has successfully stayed beside me, "Let's try and stay in the air."

"Okay!" She replies, and her wings pop out.

"Go!" Midnight signals.

Everyone starts running, but Yu and I stay in the air. Todoroki freezes the ground, but most people break free, all including our class. Once we make it a short distance from the start, the big zero pointers from the entrance exam come and greet us, violently. Todoroki freezes them, too, but when they unfreeze, they're positioned so that they fall once they're unfrozen. Once of them crushes Kirishima.

Yu gasps and goes to where Kirishima was crushed. I decide not to leave her behind, and I follow her. We wait a moment, and then Kirishima breaks out of ice, and yells, "I'm alive!" Then he notices us. "Were you guys worried?"
We nod, Yu more eagerly than me.

"Well I'm alive, but thanks!"

Yu and I go back to our air tactic, but we move a bit faster to make up for the time we lost. Next are a bunch of ropes connecting a lot of islands of rocks. Some people fall down.
Can we die in this!?

Yu and I decide to go over. I freeze some of the islands and hope whoever slips doesn't fall to their demise.

Finally, there is the minefield. Todoroki and Katsuki are right next each other racing hard and fast. We see Izuku running towards the field with a large piece of scrap metal. He starts digging up the mines into one pile, and earns a lot of confused glances from passing runners. We hear a loud explosion behind us, and see Izuku flying in the air on the piece of metal, and he comes so close that the metal scratches the side of my face.

Izuku manages to get first place, with Todoroki in second, and Bakugo in third. I look at Yu, and she gives me a sly grin.

We push forward, trying to beat each other, and with one final blast, I manage to grab 4th place, with Yu right on my tail in 5th.
