The following is a rudimentary map of the Squareworld.

The map shows its geographical features and the three biggest settlements, along with some minor ones.

In the Squareworld, there are no celestial bodies.

The day is divided into Light and Dark. North, South, East and West do not exist.

Therefore, the positions on the map are explained using words such as: "left," "right," "down," or "up".

A dense forest called Lug surrounds the Squareworld on three sides. It is where the Acorn Men abide. They are half the size of a human being, and their physical appearance is that of an acorn. They have leaflike wings on their backs and are famous for training puppies into War Dogs.

In the lower part of the Squareworld, lies the biggest water source: the river Tebesum. Its inhabitants are transparent creatures made out of the droplets, the Reka. The Reka are often hostile towards the intruders, but they do occasionally trade water with the two cities, Lagad and Begi.

The Barrens stretch through the most part of the Squareworld — a vast wasteland which the merchants have to cross to get the water from the River Tebesum.

As its name says, it's an enormous, almost uninhabited desert.

In the central part lies a craggy mountain range, the mountain Burum.

The People of the Mountain are famous for their diplomacy and astuteness. They forge the best weapons in the Squareworld in their smithy. Their houses are built on high cliffs and connected with drawbridges. Everyone knows about their airship fleet and their peculiar funeral rites. Unlike other inhabitants of the Squareworld that preserve the bodies of the deceased in glass coffins, in a so-called Glass Dome, the Mountaineers throw the dead from the cliff and into the abyss.

In the upper part of the map lie the Shapeshifter Ruins, inhabited by people who can change their body shape.

On the right of the map, you can see the first one of the two main towns (they are roughly the same size), Begi, and a nearby village of Bronze Cliff. This is where one of three protagonists lives, Drian. He is a young abbot who secretly adores painting and wishes to change his way of life.

On the left of the map lies the second one of two towns, Lagad. This is where the remaining two protagonists are. Squinty, the orphan girl, lives in the orphanage and Nalina, the princess of Lagad and the daughter of the Leader lives in the Waterfort (popularly called "the Mushroom".)

I provide you with a small map of Lagad since many chapters in book one occur here.

It shows all the main buildings in town and their location.

–The Wells– these are the underground settlements of the community of the Wellers. The Wellers, also called The Mole Men, are people who dig and search for water underground. They are mostly naked, their bodies completely shaven, with long fingernails and toenails. They get dressed only when they come out on the surface.

—The Curatory—town hospital

—The House of Creed—town church

—The Orphanage—the place the town's orphans are looked after at the expense of The House of Creed

—The Cloaca—town sewage system

—The Glass Dome—town cemetery

—The Omnibus—town's library/school/university. Three in one.

—The Market Square—town market

—The Inns—the district filled with townhouses (Namases) and taverns

—The Waterfort—town castle; also called: the Mushroom

—The Barracks—town abodes for the Vigils (local soldiers/militia)

—The Kennels—town abodes for the Vigils' War Dogs

—The Arena–the place for Vigil military training, and apprentice initiation. Various competitions are held here, such as chariot races.

My fellow writer and a friend @Kaiddance

surprised me with gifting the map to me! She created it on a website called "Inkarnate."

I suppose these two maps could come in handy for the moments in which you wish to imagine locations where the action scenes occur.

Thank you for reading :)
