Chapter One

I was denied entry into an r-rated movie the other day.

Mainly because of the explicit language it had.

But since I am seventeen, they apparently think I have somewhat of innocence left.

To think I'd be disturbed by it.

Hah-

If only they stepped into this generation's public school,

maybe then they wouldn't care.

We don't need a screen to see what unfolds before us,

just grab our popcorn and rush to first block, cause no, we don't wanna be late.

Freshman year: I saw a boy who would get morning, afternoon, and night kicked out of him over money.

When the sole of their shoe hit his face, my mouth felt numb.

As if I could feel his pain.

My mouth went copper with the taste of pennies owed,

nose broken,

blood dripping,

teeth lost,

but the bell rang.

"Just another Wednesday." They would say.

And you act like our innocence is still intact,

that we never lost somebody,

never witnessed bullying,

that depression, anxiety, or any other illness doesn't run our life.

Hah-

Oh what a dream it would be to have that child innocence back.
