So. The Betio Bastards were gone. Their leader had perished. Our families justified. Some of us were dead. The rest had fought back. We had lived.
"So what do we do now that the war is over?" Asked summer. We were stood on our balcony.
"We live the rest of our lives." I answered. "We can do that with no fears now. The world is at peace." I gave summer a kiss and went into the room where Clodagh was looking after Joe and Adin.
"Hello little-man." I said cuddling up to Adin. "The war is over. Mummy and daddy aren't going anywhere. I might even destroy Lucille."
Connor who was looking through the gap in the door stopped and gasped.
"Not really. She'll outlive you're mother and I. Lucille has been faithfull."
As if by magic a miracle happened. Adin began to make noise. He smiled and said. "Lucy."
Oh look. Kayleigh was right. I was crying. My kid. Who I can watch grow up this time just said his first word. It wasn't mama or dada. It was Lucy.
We decided to got for a walk. We went up Kingsway and got to the church. A low rumbling began as I looked up and saw the last three red arrows fly by. It was great for once in the last four years.
