Ruby x Alucard | Partners

Alucard's pov

I was summoned by the village mayor, and as I was sitting outside his office waiting to be called in, I wondered why he would want to see me. After all, I had just stopped by this village to rest for the night, it wasn't a crime right?

The door of the office swings open and the mayor's assistant walks out. "Mr Alucard? You can go in now." She says to me. I nodded briefly at her before walking in swiftly, closing the door behind me.

The office was a small and stuffy place, so it was hard not to notice the man sitting at the desk at the back, leaning his arm on the table and rubbing the sides of his forehead with his other hand. Upon seeing me come in, he sits up and gestures for me to sit down in front of him.

"Hello, Mr Alucard," he greets as I take a seat, making me cringe. Does everyone in this village gets referred to as Mr or Ms? "I'm sure you are wondering why I called you here," he continues. Thanks for stating the obvious. "I've heard that you are a demon hunter, and I need your help dealing with some demons."

"Wait, so you want me to hunt down this pack of wolves, and kill them?" I questioned the mayor in disbelief. "Shouldn't you hand this job over to a wolf hunter or something?"

The mayor sighs. "Mr Alucard, those wolves aren't the ordinary types of wolves. They are smarter, more intelligent and more ruthless. The last time they came, they injured many of our people, and they killed our bravest hunter, who had happened to hunt him down before. His poor granddaughter has been traumatised since then, and I think it drove the poor girl into madness. We had to keep her in safe hands since then."

"Ok, so they may be demon wolves. Now can you tell me where I can find them?" I ask. The mayor claps his hands. "Bring her in!" He calls out. His assistant opens the door and leads a young girl into the room. She had shoulder length blonde hair and was dressed in a cute little dress paired with a red hood. Wait, cute? No, she is probably still a child, definitely not my type.

But although she looked like a child, her face wore the most serious expression I have ever seen, she looked more mature than her years.

"Mr Alucard, meet Ms Ruby," Says the mayor. "Ms Ruby is the granddaughter of our dear hunter, she will be telling you where the wolves' hideout is. Ms Ruby, this is Alucard, the man that will hunt down the wolves for you."

"I don't need someone to help me avenge my grandparents," says Ruby bluntly, taking me aback. "Excuse me?" I snapped. "I don't think you yourself can handle the mission, can you?"

Ruby glared at me. "Of course I can, you probably don't know the first thing about wolves." It was true, I knew nothing about wolves, I am a demon hunter after all! "And I bet you don't know anything about demons," I fired back. I think I left her speechless, because she turns away, her face flushed red with embarrassment.

"Now now, don't fight," Says the mayor. "Ms Ruby, why don't you just tell Mr Alucard where to find those wolves? Then he can go slay them, and all will be well."

Ruby looks at the mayor and turns to look at me in the eye. "I'll be coming with him," she says with a look of determination. "Whether you like it or not."

"So now left or right?" I ask Ruby. "Right!" She answers confidently, turning to take the right fork of the path. We had been walking through the forest for at least an hour now, but still no sign of those wolves. I am starting to doubt if Ruby even knows where she is going.
