oh my love,
you brought ice cream
a picnic blanket and all
we sat on it and made jokes
you laughed about everything i said,
and you brought a big box of cherries,
made me aim and throw them in your mouth
oh my love, none of them got in,
so you said: "i never get any of the cherries anyway."
i think there was a double meaning to that, but i chose to ignore it
the hill we sat on was higher than the others, and my love,
i felt on top of the world
at midnight,
the moon was full in the sky
giving it a luminescent, evangelic beauty
the stars twinkled in the sky,
as if watching down over me,
over us
you turned and looked at me,
the light in your eyes comparable to the stars
and for a second, i felt as if i was lost in your eyes
"twenty seconds left, cherry," you said.
you started counting down the seconds out loud,
and i joined along,
the hum of my undecided wish getting stronger and more vivid
five!
four!
three!
two!
one!
i wish to never lose you, i thought, gasping at the comet passing by
oh my, it looked so breathtaking
it was like a flash of hope
striking through space,
doing a tour by the universe,
assuring every single soul that
they will be loved
or
that they are already loved
i smiled and looked at you
you were staring at me with that sparkle in your eyes
"what?" i said, tucking in a strand of my hair
"what'd you wish for?" you asked
i laughed. "not telling."
"do you wanna know what i wished for?"
i shook my head. "no, because you'll force me to tell you mine."
you inched closer
and put your hand on my cheek
"i wished to be happy."
i couldn't breathe, my love
you were too close to me
"i like seeing you happy," i answered
"good. because lately, cherry, the only person who makes me happy is you."
you kissed my cheek and
your lips lingered there for a while
you smelled like heaven, my love
"i'm glad i make you happy," i blushed
you winked and offered me the last cherry
i shook my head. "take it. you should have at least one cherry, they're the best."
"i know," you said, looking straight at me
