It had been two weeks since they found the dust flower in the woods. Gumball hadn't heard from Marshall since. He had hoped the vampire king got home safely. He would've gone to visit but the kingdom was in full speed, barely giving Gumball anytime to himself. He was starting to worry.
Gumball was in the bathroom doing his nightly routines. He brushed his pink locks, and his teeth. He didn't sing tonight, it reminded him too much of Marshall. He felt a depression wave drown him, he wondered why the vampire hadn't been by to see him. Maybe he was upset that Gumball didn't go to his house that might? It wasn't Gumball's fault he was always so busy. He grew in frustration. If the vampire was playing emotional games just because he didn't get his way is selfish of him. Gumball threw his toothbrush down and walked into his bedroom.
The moonlight dimmed through the curtains as he approached his drawers and fetched out his band shirt. He held it to his chest for a minute, missing the stupid vampire. He slipped on the shirt, watching as it reached his purple boxers. As he turned toward his bed, a slight scream escaped his lips.
Marshall was sitting on the edge of his bed, his head hanging low staring at his hands. He wore a dark black hoodie as some sweat pants. Which was weird, because Gumball had never seen the vampire in sweats. He kept his distance, remembering the last time Marshall snuck into his room acting strange. He realized he was afraid.
"Marshall?" It came out nearly as a whisper. The vampire didn't move.
"Marshall." Gumball said it a little more fiercely, only to see the vampire's head drop in his hands and sob. The sound of Marshall Lee crying was enough to break the Candy prince's heart. He ran over to Marshall, dropping to his knees in front of him.
"Marshall, please stop crying. What happened? What's wrong?" Gumball reached up to help wipe the tears away.
"It's just so hard sometimes." The vampire cried between sobs. The prince didn't know what to do. He never took Marshall as the type to be emotional. He never thought he'd even see the vampire cry.
Gumball reached up for him, dragging him onto his lap. He cuddled him softly, not knowing if it was working but this is what Peppermint Maid always did when he was a boy. Gumball rubbed Marshall's back as the vampire sobbed into his chest.
"What's wrong Marshall? You know you can tell me anything." This caused the vampire's crying to increase. Gumball held him tighter, not really knowing what to do. He'd always been the one who needed soothing. He did what he always liked best. He gently rocked Marshall, humming sweet tunes in his ear until his crying eased. He knew the vampire couldn't speak while he cried. He would just have to wait for Marshall to calm down.
Gumball wiped away the last of his tears. Marshall cuddled his head into Gumball's neck, staring blankly at his wall. They were still seated on the floor, Gumball's back against his bed frame. His hand slightly stroking Marshall's hand.
"Are you ready to talk now?" Gumball tried to keep his voice low, he didn't want to startle the vampire again.
"It just gets so bad sometimes. I don't even know why or how. One minute I'm on top of the world, but the next I'm asking myself what's the point. I just don't know how much longer I can take this Gumball." Marshall started crying again, his fingers digging into Gumball's shirt.
The prince didn't speak, instead just held Marshall a little closer. "I try so hard to keep the thoughts away. They just keep coming back, no matter how hard I try I can't run from them."
