Sometime in the afternoon while Connie had been arranging dinner, Jacob had fallen asleep on the sofa. Grace came hurtling down the stairs before glancing in to see him sleeping. She wandered in picking up the spare blanket she normally used before draping it over him carefully.
Connie glanced up from what she was doing to see Grace before quickly returning her eyes to what she was doing. Grace wandered out the room, shutting the doors gently before sitting up at the breakfast bar. "Did Jacob work last night?" "What gave you that thought sweetheart?" She smirked rolling her eyes before leaning forwards on her hands.
"Hugo coming over?" "His Dad said yes." Connie nodded as she placed a few things onto baking trays noticing Grace becoming ever quiet. "Everything alright?" She flickered her eyes between the food and her daughter to see the internal fight she seemed to be having. "Gracie?" Wiping her hands on the towel, she wandered round the table to pull the seat out beside her. "It's just Dad, how he was acting after I told him. I don't know, I guess it just kind of upset me a bit."
Connie moved an arm around her daughter's shoulders as she ran her hand up and down her back comfortingly. "It will do baby, but you have to understand your father just wants the best for you. No matter how hard it might be for him... I'd be the same sweetheart. Hearing you so happy with someone else, as good as it would be, it would be hard." "I didn't mean to upset him-" "I know you didn't baby, sometimes it's hard to hide how we feel."
Grace leant her head against her chest releasing a heavy breath. "I'm sorry I ever made you choose between Jacob and me... I never realised how much you liked him before." "It's alright sweetheart. I don't think I ever realised just how much I liked him either, not until after the accident and a lot of other things on top of that."
Grace sat up a little as Connie smiled gently down at her. "I think Hugo fancies me Mum." Connie ran her thumb back and forth across Grace's arm. "And do you like him-" "NO." Connie arched a brow before Grace's eyes dropped to the counter, before she shrugged. "I don't know, maybe." Connie couldn't help the smile as she watched Grace avoid looking to her. "Then I think you should carry on as you are, until you're sure." Connie gently nudged Grace's arm causing her to smile.
"How about you go and get changed while I finish up down here, and then we'll go get him." Grace nodded sliding down from the chair before heading up the stairs quietly so as to not wake Jacob. Glancing back and seeing the doors to the living room shut still, she smiled placing the trays into the oven. Leaning back against the counter she placed a hand to her bump, rubbing it round in circles slowly. "I think your Daddy needs more beauty sleep than I do." Seeing the time, she wandered upstairs to throw on a change of clothes.
Grace lingered in the door way for a while just watching her Mum. Connie had changed into a tight black dress and re-curled her hair so that it fell a little more defined over her shoulders. Fastening the necklace beneath her hair, she stood up moving to stand before the mirror. Brushing her hands over the front of the dress, she lifted them to rest against her stomach before noticing Grace in the reflection of the mirror.
"Alright baby?" Grace nodded as she slipped beneath Connie's arm tucking herself into her side. "I can't wait to be a big sister..." Connie laughed placing her hand above Grace's while the other ran through the ends of her hair. "And I'm sure they can't wait to meet you. Come on, we're going to be late otherwise."
Stepping away Grace waited while Connie put her heels on. "Why did you stop wearing your dresses to work? Did you not want people knowing about the baby?" Standing back up, she shook her hair down her back as she wandered towards Grace. "Sometimes, things can go wrong and I didn't want everyone knowing if things weren't okay... Buuuut, Jacob and I decided that it's about time we said something-" "So I can tell Hugo!?" Connie laughed as she took Grace's hand. "I think it'll be a little obvious when I turn up looking like this."
