Astrid yawned, the effects of last night's ride with Hiccup still boring down on her. Stormfly fell, taking Astrid down with her, causing Astrid to hurt her shoulder. She smiled, thinking of what happened before that. Hiccup was a fan of taking her on romantic rides, probably to forget about The Edge blowing up because of the volcano.
"Hey Sneaky," Astrid said to her Terrible Terror as it crawled in the window. She then heard the clanking of a metal leg coming up the stairs. She let Sneaky go out the window as Hiccup appeared in the doorway. "Hey you," she said smiling. She patted the open spot on the bed beside her.
"Hey," he replied, giving her a quick kiss. He then sat down next to her, resting his head in his hands, probably also tired. Stormfly hurt her wing, so the two of them got the wonderful task of pulling her back to Berk on a wagon without anyone knowing.
"What's up?" She asked, putting a comforting hand on his shoulder. She hated seeing him upset because of the Edge. It wasn't his fault Viggo Grimborne was an idiot.
"The sky," he replied, looking out the window where Toothless was playing with Stormfly's tail, and Stormfly lazily thumping it every couple of secomds. He lopsidedly smiled, making Astrid's heart flutter. "Oh, you mean literally," he said. Astrid nodded, prodding to find out what's going on. "Well, uh, our fathers are meeting downstairs which is kinda why I'm here. I'm supposed to join them in a couple of minutes. After the initial discussion. I just came here to make sure your okay."
"Oh, I completely forgot about them. Is your father in a good mood?" She asked. "Oh, and yes, I'm feeling much better," she said, answering his question.
"In one of the best," he replied, giving her one last hug before getting up. Astrid watched him walk through the door, before collapsing on her pillow. Sneaky then came back in the room, eyeing her suspiciously. She giggled, throwing her legs over the side of the bed.
"Morning mom," she said, grabbing a piece of whatever was on the small table. After the men were done talking, the girls were to give them their breakfast, and they would be told the decision then.
"Morning. Could you please stir that?" Her mother asked, gesturing to the kettle in the middle of the room.
"Sure," Astrid replied, grabbing the big wooden stick. She remembered being five, unable to stir the kettle.
After awhile, Astrid put the stick down, staring at the outspread of food before her. "Mom, what is all this for?"
"Astrid, the Chief is here. With his son. The future Chief. Of course we'll make more food than necessary. We want you in good graces with both of them."
"By making more food?" She asked. Her mother was to busy with the pots and pans in the cupboard to notice. After her mother was done, Astrid said. "But mom, I already am in good graces with them. I've been Hiccup's #2 for years."
"Yes, well, Stoick is not only thinking of you and Hiccup. He's also thinking about all of Berk. He needs to see that we have raised a responsible young girl."
"By making more food?" Astrid asked, popping a something or other into her mouth. She proceeded to spit it out, unable to handle its bitter taste.
"Yes. When I asked some of the ladies at the Great Hall what they all made for Stoick, they said 'anything and everything.' So, that's what I'm making," she said.
"Okay," Astrid said. She grabbed a piece of chicken from the tray, walking out the back door so she wouldn't disturb the men. "Hey girl, how's your wing?" Astrid asked her Deadly Nadder. Stormfly lazily looked over, only looking more alive when she spotted the chicken in Astrid's hand. She squaked, and stole the piece of chicken from Astrid's hand.
"That's my girl," Astrid said, she then walked over to the house, only to see Hiccup getting up angrily. She watched as he stomped over to the door, and then threw open the door in anguish. He looked at Astrid, before taking off on Toothless. He then fired at a Sea Stack, taking his anger out on it. What could happen that would make Hiccup that mad? She asked herself. Looking at Stormfly, she decided to ride Hookfang, with Snotlout's permission first, of course.
After going over to Snotlout's, and asking for Hookfang, she headed over to the stables, where Hookie was waiting. She threw the saddle over his back, strapping it on under his neck. She then hopped on, reaching for his horns. When she did this, he lit up on fire, scaring Astrid for a second. Her screams filled the air as Hookie took off.
When they settled down to a comfortable height and speed, Astrid apologized for her mistake. "Sorry about that boy. Not used to flaming dragons," she said, patting his neck. He looked up at her in acknowledgment, spreading his wings to glide.
After an uneventful search for one Toothless Night Fury, and Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, Astrid returned to Berk, eyeing the ground suspiciously. Hiccup never missed a meal made by Mrs. Hofferson. Nor did he ever destroy Sea Stacks for no apparent reason. And even when he's upset, he still tells Astrid what's going on.
Finally, Astrid landed, surveying the landscape of Berk. It. Was. Dead. Just like that with winter when the Speed Stingers came and attacked Berk. Hiccup found everyone in the cove frozen. Only this time, no one was frozen on the Cove, and everyone hid in their houses. When Astrid reached hers, she was quickly pulled inside.
"Mom! What's going on?" Astrid shouted. She then noticed that all the Dragon Riders were also there.
"Is Hookie in the stables?" Snotlout asked.
"Um, yes, why?" Astrid asked.
"Well, no use in hiding it. Your father got this idea that you and Hiccup don't belong getting married. Stoick went on a rampage, and Hiccup is missing."
Just then, Stoick opened the door, a look of anguish on his face.
