Chapter Two

What that girl Temari said only proved my theory that Suna was working with Uncle Orochimaru. And I almost had no doubt who the spy was-almost. But what she said… Who should I be more afraid of? The truth was, I wasn’t afraid of either. I wasn’t that powerful to take them on one on one but still. I was lying in bed, thinking about the whole thing when I heard a soft knock on my bedroom door.

“You awake?” he said a little too loudly.

“Just come in.”

Naruto was the only one I trusted with the key to my house- he was my brother after all. He sat behind the desk and look at me with worried eyes.

“Your brain was a fuss last night, I couldn’t sleep at all.”

“Sorry,” I said and sat up, “Was just…thinking.”

“Listen. I think there’s something you’re not telling us. I know there was more to that mission than you and Kakashi Sensei led on. And that’s what’s keeping you up at night.”

“You don’t need to worry about it.”

“See, when there’s something that’s keeping my sister up at night, even though she’s so fearless and strong, well I think we should all worry. And you’ve been drinking way too much Green tea blend recently.”

“Naruto, you’re awesome and thanks for worrying but you really shouldn’t. I got thing under control.”

I went to the bathroom and changed into my usual, red high-collar vest up to my bellybutton, bandaged on my stomach that covered up that symbol and shorts. My black hair was braided over my shoulder.

“By the way, you’re staying for breakfast because I am not letting you eat instant ramen again.”

“Oh come on! Well at least let me go out for ramen for lunch!”

“Fine.”

I made breakfast and some more Green tea blend but he refused.

“Seriously, you should stop drinking that,” he said when I set everything down on the table. “It’s like it’s clouding up your mind or something.”

He tried to grab a bite but my oversized bird swooped in and grabbed his food than landed on the counter.

“What the hell is that!” he yelled and jumped up. He started wrestling the bird for food.

“It’s a Phoenix. I named him Obito.”

“Would you…!” Naruto yelled to the bird and jus then, Obito yanked harder and swallowed up. Naruto came back and kept eyeing the bird while he took another portion.

“Obito? Nice name,” he said after he was sure the Phoenix wouldn’t swoop down and grab his food again.

“Yeah, he used to be Kakashi’s teammate.”

“Really? He never talked about his team.”

“Yeah well it’s not a pretty story. Anyway, Obito’s words were really the ones that made an impression on me and I wanted his spirit to live on.”

“That’s nice. What were the words?”

“In the Sinobi world, those who violate the rules and abandon their missions are treated as scum, but those who abandon their friends are even worse than scum. It’s been my mantra since I first heard them.”

“That Obito man, he was pretty smart.”

“Kakashi said you resemble him-you’re both fools with big hearts.”
