"Are you trying to destroy me?" Kate stared at her father in disbelief. She couldn't stand his face at that moment. Out of all the people she had in her life, he seemed to be the only one trying to take her down. She was absolutely seething.
"Oh, Kate." Richard rolled his eyes, acting as though she was just being a child. "Stop being so melodramatic. Bridget pretty much revolutionized her character today. We've never had a turn out like that at one character's section of the Island before. That girl deserves some recognition."
"I gave her Alexi's position as second in command. How much more recognition does she need?" Kate was starting to see red, she was so angry. Bridget reminded Kate too much of Alexi's old self. Especially her competitive side. Alexi was always out to get everything Kate had. If there was one thing that she liked about her friend's depression, it was that she stopped having to worry about Alexi trying to get everything she wanted. She had never expected Bridget to fall into Alexi's shoes. Not this swiftly, anyway.
"Kate, you're the leader." Richard looked at his daughter firmly. He always made her feel like a complete neanderthal when he spoke to her like that. It was all so simple for him to see but she was still scratching her head with a dinosaur bone in his eyes. "How much more recognition do you need? You're supposed to be supporting these girls not becoming jealous of their successes."
"What is that supposed to mean?!" Kate hated it whenever anyone called her out, let alone her own Father. He seemed to be using the leader position as an excuse to keep her back from everything she wanted on the Island.
"It means that right now, I don't even see my daughter. I see a green-eyed monster." He growled at her in a low tone. No one else would have caught on if they were eavesdropping but Kate knew he was just as angry as she was. He was just better trained in public relations and could contain himself better. Kate could care less what anyone else thought of their family. They usually came up to their own conclusions, anyway. Why not give them something real to talk about?
"How -" Kate began but her Father wasn't paying attention, he was waving down Bridget and Jason who had just arrived via golf cart. She loathed having to compete for his attention. Especially to that little twerp and her brainless prince. Just like typical Alexi, Bridget was stealing all of Kate's time away from her Father. She watched as Richard gave Bridget a hug before leading her and Jason to their new float. It was actually an old revamped float that they had been working on all day after news of Bridget's busy cove spread through the grounds like wildfire.
When the news had reached Kate, a little after her lunch break, she instantly felt like she wanted to throw up everything she had just eaten. If her Father hadn't crippled her original plan, she'd be further ahead than Bridget at that moment. She was so tired of him messing with her plans. She was an adult and she still had to follow every single thing her Father told her to do.
If he wouldn't let her run things the way she wanted to, she'd just have to start sabotaging her Father from the inside out. She'd love to see how he felt when the rug was repeatedly pulled out on him. Bridget seemed like the perfect person to start with.
The moment she laid eyes on Bridget's necklace, she knew exactly what she was going to do. As soon as Bridget turned her back on the necklace, she was going to regret it. Kate had plans for it.
"Kate?" She heard Jacob's voice calling her name in his sweet voice. She could never get enough of it. "I thought that out of everybody here, you would have been the first person on the float."
"What's that, Sweetheart?" Kate snapped out of her bitchy mood for Jacob. He was the only guy on the island that she could stand. He was cute, understanding and sweet to her. She had been trying to drop hints that she wanted to date him since high school but he wasn't budging. She couldn't understand why.
