you wrap your strong arms around your sister,
she buries herself in your chest,

a tear slips from your eye,
another crash.
and all is silent.
you know it's over now—
but that's the part that hurts the most.
you've lost.
every night,
you shake yourself with soft sobs,
trying to cover your ears,
tossing
and turning—
in attempt to silence the voices.
but this time,
it's not the voices of your parents yelling,
it's the voices in your head,
telling you to give up.
