i. author's note

Thank you for reading RIP! This is the end, unfortunately, but if you want to know my thought processes behind this story, please continue to read until the last section of this author's note.

This is my first true horror story, and I'm actually pleased that it wasn't a total pile of crap. I wrote this for the 100 Quirky Ways to Die competition (hosted by HGWProject). The premise was that I was given a way for my main character to die and I had to build a story around it. Can you guess what mine was?

That's right. Eaten by a common household pet.

Although I think it's more within the capabilities of a cat to go insane and eat people, I chose to do a dog. The aspect of Jack the Ripper was just for fun. And for extra creeps.

Thank you to Blondiekills16 because she is my horror story inspiration. (I mean that in the way that she made me want to write a horror story, not that this was based on her, haha!) Another writer who also made me appreciate thriller (because she is an amazing authoress) is _deranged_delusions_.

But thank you to whoever gives this quirky (ayyy) story a shot! I had a lot of fun writing it. The mystery aspect and even at the ending, the not knowing exactly what was going on, really made me grin like the evil writer soul I am.

Much love, xx Hannah

At the most, my plans for this story existed on a single page from my desk notepad, lol! I wrote the first chapter in an hour.

iii. recommendations

If you like this story (wink wink) you should go check out the closest thing I have to another horror story on my profile: a thriller/paranormal/mystery called The Boy from the Treehouse. (It even has a sequel, called The Girl Beneath the Moon!)

If you want something to rid the horror from your mind, check out these lighter and sappier collections:

When the Leaves Fall: an anthology of Autumn

Inner Music: a collection of poems for anonymous people who need them

iv. secrets to the story

A fun part of this story was the idea of keeping everyone in the dark. However, I am not that cruel to leave unanswered questions, and besides this is most definitely a standalone book, so this will be the most answers you will ever get from me about it. :) Hopefully with these hints you can piece together what was going on behind the scenes ~

The original Jack the Ripper targeted prostitutes. Cloe was a prostitute.

The dog was trained to go after Cloe's scent.

Cloe had broken someone's heart. And broken hearts occasionally find their way to anger.

When you destroy your life, you really don't care who you take down with you. Cloe didn't. Neither did our "Jack."
