Veronica stares at you after nodding, agreeing to go to your place after school. You grinned widely, gripping her arm.
"I'll see you tonight."
You practically skipped off, making Veronica sigh. Her head was spinning; she could barely remember her conversation with Betty.
"When all this time she's been in love with you!"
That couldn't be true. You were so obviously in love with the blonde girl next door. She felt her heart ache as she realized how perfect the two of you would be together.
Veronica shook her head, closing her locker and slinging her purse over her shoulder. She began to walk after you, jogging a bit to catch up.
"I'm sorry," She started, making you look at her. "I don't think tonight works."
You frowned for a second, but nodded. "Oh, sure! I'll just hang out with Betty or something."
"Are you interested in Betty, or something?" She asked, closing her eyes and waving her arms angrily. You were taken aback by the question, and you raised your eyebrows.
"Why would you think that?"
"That's not an answer," She pushed. You froze for a second, unable to find the right words.
"That's what I thought," Veronica mumbled, but you stopped her from walking away.
"No, I'm not!" You exclaimed. "Sure, I love Betty as a friend! But I'm not in love with her."
"Really? Because you said you loved someone, then you and Betty started acting like a damn couple!" Veronica cried.
"What's it to you?" You asked. "What happened to no strings?"
"I fell for you, okay?" She admitted. "I fell in love with you."
You tried so hard not to smile, but soon enough you were grinning. "You love me?"
"Why are you smiling?" She countered. You shrugged.
"Maybe because I fell for you too."
