2 months pass. 2 long months. Not much has happened since then. The days have passed, we've read, used the gym, over used the art room, played instruments for fun, and everything. The plants were growing good, it's now mid-summer and we are dying from the heat. Flies come through the window, so many that we are having another apocalypse of its own. The rotting carcasses a humongous breeding ground for those pests. Our supplies are dwindling steadily.

"I'm boreddddddddd" Ashton groans sitting upside down off the bench.

"We ALL are bored" maire says.

We are all laying in the grass in the shade, our sweat sticking to our skin. I run my hands through my slightly growing out chopped hair. A gentle breeze blows through and we all let out a satisfied sigh.

"Do you guys want to raid the lockers? We have the key" I reply after awhile.

"Nah.... We already tried that, nothing interesting. Except we found some drugs but I chucked them out the window" Olivia says and the heat starts Beating down on us again.

"Ugh you're such a party pooper Olivia" I says grinning, everyone can tell I'm kidding.

"I wish we could go swimming" Lauren says longingly.

"Do you really want to??" I say sitting up.

"What are you talking about?" Maya questions.

"That little creek, right by the school. It has the fence on either sides, if you really want we could be stealth ninjas. It's been really quiet for the past few days..." I reply.

"Sure" Olivia says at a moments notice.

"You really think we could do that?" Maire says.

"Well the worst thing that could happen is one of us dies, but you know what, what's there to live for anyway." Says maya.

"Well it's settled, we are going to risk our life to jump into small creek, why not?" Ashton says sarcastically.

"Oh come on" I grab her arm and pull her up.

We go back to the room to see my grandma napping and my mom not in the room, so we quietly creep in and grab what we need. Light tank tops, home made flip flops and short shorts, and we each grab a knife for protection. Sneaking outside of the room we make our way to the same side door my grandma drove us to 2 months or so ago. We unlock the door and push it closed quietly. The smell of the dead zombie I pushed out of the window is powerful after baking under the sun for months. We all are quiet as we make our way across the empty lot. Turning the corner, a zombie is staring out at the football field with it's back to is and we all internally gasp. Ashton instinctively stealths behind it and plunges the knife in the base of its skull. The male zombie bites the dust and flops to the ground, Ashton puts her foot on its head and yanks the knife out. She motions with her hands to follow her and we sprint across the the fence and find an easy access point behind two bars. Slipping through easily, we all immediately walk straight into the cool water.

"Ah........." We moan in relief, the water cooling us down and bringing memories of sweet summers before now. The water is clean and tiny little minnows swim around our feet.

"This was the best idea Lauren" I whisper and we all nod in response.

We all lay down in the water, letting it run over our shoulders and toes and down the creek. Suddenly we hear the rumbling of a car over the unfinished road work. My eyes go wide and I jump up, motioning for my friends to hide under the bridge as well. The car thunders over the small bridge and goes on to who knows where. I breath a sigh of relief. Until I hear the moaning. Peeking out from under the bridge I see dozens of zombies heading towards the noise. Our faces go white as they get closer and closer to us. That car attracting more zombies than the New York State fair. We grab our knives and rush to climb up the steep slope and back to the school. The groans get louder and closer as their brains locking on to the running hot pockets. Shambling faster towards us, we finally make it to the top of the slope. I start running when I realize maire isn't with us. I look over the side of the hill and see her struggling on a jutting out rock.

"Help me!!" Maire screams panicked as zombies close in on her. Olivia and I lean over the hill and grab her hand pulling her up. Just as we were about to get her up to safety we feel a large tug and maire slips down. We pull harder and I look maire in the eyes. The sheer terror I see is heart breaking. He face distorts to agony as she starts screaming at the top of her lungs. I motion for maya to grab her too and we all pull her up in one swift motion. Marie's left leg is shredded into a huge bloody mess, the bite marks visable. My eyes widen in disbelief and I pick her up bridal style (if I haven't mentioned she's a toothpick). I can hear my friends offing zombies but all I can focus on is maire screaming and crying in my arms. I start speed walking as my friends protect us. We make it to the doors and fumble with the keys but manage to open it (strangely in a newly wed manner). I push my way in and all my friends follow, slamming the door behind us. A zombie slams into the door and bares it's teeth at us through the window. Maires hands are digging into my skin as she tries to handle the pain. We all
Rush her to base and the door flies open my mom right there.

"WHERE WERE YOU?!?!" She screams at us and I wince.

"Not important" I say pushing past her and put maire in a teachers lounge arm chair. She's writhing in pain and has a sickly pale face. Olivia is rustling through our first aid kit and hands me some peroxide and bandages.

"Grab her arms" I say and maire looks at me like a lost puppy.

I pour the peroxide into her wound and she starts screaming and kicking, kicking me in my face. I hold my now bloody nose and use some of the gauze to stop the flow. Maya grabs the bandages and continues my work, wrapping up her leg. When it's done we all take a huge step away from her. She's breathing hard in the chair and wipes the tears from her eyes. The room is silent besides the distant moan of zombies outside.

"What do we do now" Lauren says what we all were thinking.

"Truth is, this might not even save you" I say bluntly.

She just groans and turns away from us, not wanting to look into our eyes.

Do we say goodbye?
