Chapter 14

Eugene had made it into Pitch's lair.

It was incredibly dark, and the only way that he could tell where he was going was to keep a hand on the wall. He inched forward with caution, as to the fact he couldn't see the floor or his feet and he wanted to keep from falling over.

Come on, Jack, He thought. Where are you?

He wanted to make it up to him. He hadn't thought that Pitch would go and capture him, and Pitch wasn't expecting him. But he was sure that Jack would find out sooner or later.

Alright, I'm sure that all of you are confused at this part in our tale. Let me begin to explain, by going back in time...

About 8 years earlier, Eugene Fitzherbert was a young orphan who had escaped his so-called "prison" that was actually an orphanage. He ran away to Scotland and changed his name to Flynn Rider. He found it hard to live on the streets in the kingdom, but was able to make it through for a few months, until he was caught stealing an apple.

The royal guards came to take him to the castle prison, which Eugene thought was quite an honor for stealing an apple.

But he was rescued by a young lady only a year younger than him.

Her name was Rapunzel. Princess Rapunzel.

Rapunzel had asked her mother if she could take a walk in the kingdom, and she agreed as long as 3 guards came along. Merida had gotten in trouble earlier that day, and wasn't allowed to go along. While she was down there exploring, she and the guards had spotted a man yelling angrily at a young boy. The guards went over to investigate, asking Rapunzel to stay near and not to come too close in case trouble started.

But Rapunzel overheard what they were saying, and didn't find this quite fair.

She went over right away, asking what the problem was innocently. The guards explained, and said that they were going to bring the boy down and to the castle prison. The boy didn't seem too down; in fact, he seemed a little honored to be going. But Rapunzel, as said before, didn't find this fair.

"What is your name?" She asked him.

"Fl-Flynn Rider." The boy stuttered, quite amazed that the princess would acknowledge him.

"Flynn Rider," She repeated, smiling a tiny bit. "Flinn, why did you steal that apple?"

"Well..." He hesitated, wondering if he should tell the truth. "I was hungry. Not everyone has money to pay. You have to steal sometimes. I just...don't usually get caught."

Rapunzel nodded, and turned to the guards. "Let him go." She said.

"Princess-"

"That's an order, captain."

Now, Rapunzel had never given a direct order to anyone before, but the guards did let him go. Rapunzel then turned to the owner that Flynn had stolen from. "Sir, if Flynn works with you for about a month or so, will that be enough to pay you back for the inconvenience?"

The owner was shocked for a moment, but nodded a yes after the shock had left. Rapunzel smiled to him and then turned back to Flynn. "If you ever need help, Flynn, you can always go to try and find work instead of stealing. And if you ever need it, the castle will always be open to you."

Flinn was shocked as well for the generosity of Rapunzel, but smiled and nodded. After that, Rapunzel and her guards returned to the castle and Flynn started to work for the man. He found that the man was quite nice to him, and started working for him fully. Often times, he would go and visit the castle and see Rapunzel. After a month of seeing her and getting to know her more, he revealed to her that his name wasn't Flynn Rider but Eugene Fitzherbert. When he had told her, she smiled and said, "You know, for the record, I like Eugene Fitzherbert much better than Flynn Rider."
