an amber glow gleams in the night

and I can feel the heat on my skin

it's uncomfortably hot

I'm sweating.

I'm running.

my vision blurs from the smoke--

I stumble --

it jumps at the back of my thigh

kissing the skin roughly,

the pain is not immediate

but when I take notice I scream in agony before patting it out

I continue to run

I pass more trees and one by one they recruit each other --

passing on fiery halos

it gets closer

I can feel the heat on the back of my neck

and my back -- my thighs

the flames shoot closer

and I run faster

I'm breathing heavy

tears are streaming down my face

but I remain stoic

submitting to my emotions will not get me anywhere but

I want to scream

and I want to ball up in fit of tears

I want to be home

I want to be safe

and I'm determined to be

I see a road ahead

its only a bit further

I stumble out onto it and into the street

I stand back and examine the damage that has been done

Was it entirely at my hand?

I don't bother to think about it too much

instead I inspect the damage to my skin

I'm covered in burns
