Emma ducked and ran behind the couch, her brown hair catching in her mouth. She brushed it back with her hand as the pillow flew past and hit the wall, just missing her.

"You asshole! You're gonna regret that!" she yelled. She peeked out from behind the couch, just enough to catch a glimpse of Cooper picking up another pillow to throw. Emma darted out and before he could throw it, she grabbed it off him roughly and hit him over the head with it. She smirked as Cooper help hit head in pain.

"Karma's a bitch, Coops. You should know that by now."

"Goddamn it woman! You don't know your own strength."

Emma walked over to the freezer and pulled out an icepack, chucking it in the direction of Cooper who was currently sitting on the couch with his head in his hands. He caught the icepack and mumbled something that Emma wasn't able to hear. She walked back over and sat down next to him, running a hand through his dark hair as she did so.

"What was that?"

"Nothing!"

"Don't lie to me, there's another pillow right next to me." She grinned childishly and patted the pillow like a dog.

"Ok, ok... I just said, this was not the way I wanted to spend my birthday. There, happy now?"

Emma gave her boyfriend a sideways hug and leaned her head on his shoulder, feeling slightly guilty. She had, after all, been the one to initiate the play fight between them. Although it hadn't seemed like a big deal half an hour ago when it started, both Cooper and Emma were very competitive people, meaning neither would give in easily. For Cooper to stop fighting at a pillow to the head must mean he was really upset.

"I'm sorry, babe. I just got carried away and didn't realise it was bothering you. I would never want to upset you, especially on your birthday. I mean, I shouldn't be beating up old men anyway, to be completely honest with you..."

"I'm not old! You're two months younger than me you idiot!"

Emma laughed, "I know, that's why I said it! I only have two months left to say it. And twenty six is old for your information."

"Yeah, it is until you turn twenty six. This happens every year, Em."

Cooper pouted at her as she laughed. Emma tucked her legs beneath her and reached up to kiss his cheek. She really did feel bad, as Cooper was the one person to stick by her through everything, through her best friend leaving she was 12, to her parents disowning her when she told them she wouldn't go to college. Emma loved Cooper, he was her best friend and so much more. He was the one person she could trust, completely and utterly, and she hoped she could be the same for him. Emma took Cooper's hand that wasn't holding the icepack and looked into his warm brown eyes.

"I love you."

He smiled down at her, squeezing her hand lightly and letting her know she was forgiven.

"I love you too."
