when alexis woke up this morning, she didn't expect to wake up completely alone.
alone with her biggest fear to exist.
--
THE NIGHT BEFORE.
"okay, here we go," ethan's mother said sweetly, approaching the kids at the table with milk and cookies.
alexis and benny were on their phones, alexis had her head in hand, scrolling through social media.
"don't you guys think you're getting a little too old for milk and cookies?" she added, benny setting his phone aside.
"maybe. but you're never too old for a cookie sandwich! mmm," benny responded, smushing three cookies together and taking a huge bite.
alexis visibly shuddered at the sight, showing her distaste for benny's eating habits. she let out a sigh before going back on her phone.
"just when i thought you found every way to be disgusting, you find another one," sarah remarked.
ethan panicked and set down his own cookie sandwich in shame and picked up a singular cookie. "yeah, i know, right? grow up, benny."
alexis rolled her eyes and giggled, tossing a chocolate chip at ethan who gave her a deadpanned look.
"hello?" evelyn sung as she entered the house, everyone turning to face her.
"oh hi, evelyn. come on in. what brings you here?" ethan's mother questioned the woman, benny turning around in his seat with his moderately downcast eyes.
"well, i just wanted to make sure that benny isn't making a mess," she replied nicely, secretly waving her finger at benny's glass of milk which toppled over and spilled very closely by alexis. "oh! do you have any napkins?"
"stay put, no problem. i'll get some." ethan's mother turned away, heading towards their pantry.
"grandma!" benny whined out before evelyn knelt down and gave us unassumed looks. "well. what do you have to say for yourselves?"
"it's an easy explanation. sarah and lex didn't believe in trolls and ethan bet me i couldn't conjure one. what was i supposed to do?" benny explained, gesturing to the person when he mentioned their names and sarah rolled her eyes.
"you didn't conjure a troll. you conjured a toll. it cost me five bucks to get out of my living room," evelyn replied, benny's friends laughing quietly at the outcome of benny's carelessness.
"hah! told ya you couldn't do it!" ethan shouted at the boy.
as ethan's mother came back into the room, evelyn had made the plate of cookies topple over next. benny once again jumping at the surprise.
"oh benny!"
"it's okay. i'll get the dust-thingy. just be a sec," she laughed, pushing the napkins against benny's chest.
"well, at least i conjured a toll booth. can one of you three do that? hm?" benny asked in clear defeat, lifting an eyebrow.
"no, all lex and i do is fight everything while you hide," sarah pressed back, "like you hide every time that stupid robot dentist movie is on."
"hey! cyberdontist came to this planet to fill our cavities with pain! at least i'm not hiding from myself. or my feelings."
"what's that supposed to mean?" alexis asked concernly, scoffing lightly.
"that you're both vampires who's afraid to bite people," ethan informed. the girls shoot him glowering glares. "what? he said it, not me."
"and you're so perfect?" sarah capped off.
