Chapter 3

At lunch, a group of girls decided to sit with me.

They stared me down until I began to feel uncomfortable.

"So, Sierra? Is it?" A girl with black hair asked me.

I nodded.

The girl smiled. "I'm zoey. And these are my friends, Abby and Liz."

"Hello." I said quietly.

Zoey leaned forward. "So, I hear you've been put next to that freak peter in two classes! How bad is it?"

I shrugged. " it's not that bad, I mean I barely talk to him."

"Rumor has it that you made him so mad that he threw a chair against the wall. And ran out of the classroom." Abby said. Her brown eyes hungry for information.

"Wow, stuff gets around fast here." I muttered.

"What was that?" Abby had me cornered.

I sighed. "Why is it any of your business?"

Abby looked taken aback. But it was quickly gone. "I was just wondering,"

Zoey looked at me.

It was unnerving.

We sat in silence for a few minuets, then the girl named Liz spoke.

"Since it's your first day, we should fill you in on peter."

"Why are you so interested in him?" I demanded more harshly then I meant.

Zoeys eyes sparked. "Because he's a raging lunatic. Rumor had it that he got those burn marks on the inside of his hands from sticking his hands right into an open flame! And all those scars, something must be going on."

"That's nothing! I heard that he kidnaps people for fun." Abby said.

I crossed my arms. "How can you just judge him like that! You hardly know him!"

"No one can get to know him, he never talks to anyone, and of he does, it's just because he is cursing someone out." Liz said.

"Oh! And he's crazy. The poor kid thinks he's Peter Pan. Just because your first name is Peter and your last name is pan does not mean you are the fairy tale character. His parents probably just thought it was some kind of sick joke." Abby wrinkled her nose.

I frowned. "Just because you heard these things doesn't make them true."

"No, but my sources say that they are true." Zoey chimed in.

" you have got to be kidding me. Sources?" This was getting a little insane.

"You have a problem with that?"

I stood up. "I'm not going to be hanging around a bunch of people who judge their fellow classmates. I'm going to make friends with peter, just you wait."

I left.

"So how was your first day?" My mom asked cheerfully.

I glared at her over my cup.

"I witnessed my desk partner get beat up, heard that he's a lunatic, almost got recruited into a group of snobs..... How do you think my day went?"

My mother held up her hands, "sorry I asked. Is your desk partner okay?"

I shrugged. "I guess so, I mean I talked to him after and he said that he gets beat up everyday. The other kids say that he thinks that he is Peter Pan, and that I should avoid him."

My mom studied my face.

"There's no way of telling what you should do until you get to know him."

"That's the whole point. The other kids say he lets no one in and he never talks to anyone unless he is cursing at them."

I slumped into my chair.

"This quite a mystery." She said quietly.

Yeah a mystery.

"I'm going to head up to bed." I muttered.

My mom smiled softly. Then nodded.

A brown curl fell into her face.

I grabbed my phone and headed up to bed.

Slowly, I fell asleep.

But not before thinking about everything I was gonna do tomorrow
