When you become a werewolf, a few things will happen as your genetic structure and bodily systems try to adapt to the change.
In the first stage, the immune system becomes incredibly weak, causing the body to be susceptile to multiple diseases. This results in high fevers, and usually causes the werewolf to be bedridden. People can mistake this for HIV, which can cause those around them to catch the diseases.
In the second stage, the muscles of the body swell and become sore and weak, causing the person to be sent to the hospital in most cases, mistaken for muscle dystrophy. This is caused by the muscles growing in order to enhance the host's strength.
In the third stage, the different hormonal regulators are affected, causing large amounts of emotional change, usually resulting in increased irritability.
In the fourth stage, the shifting abilities begin to manifest, but as the genetic structure grows used to the change, you are unable to control the shifting. You usually shift as a result of hormonal imbalances.
