Almost a month went by, and not a lot had changed. I was still struggling to watch Hayden and Jayden be together, but Katie and Liv helped me get through it. I apologized to Dylan and we were friends again. At the moment, me and Hayden are on good terms but I still haven't told him all the things Jayden has done to me and the fact that I like him. I still haven't finished my song; I've been so caught up on the dance team I almost forgot about it. We have our first competition tomorrow and I really want to make it to Regionals. Thankfully, that mysterious number hasn't texted me ever since they "apologized". Today I wasn't planning on doing much until Hayden texted me.

Why did Hayden want me to come to his dumb date so badly? He's been with Jayden for nineteen days (but who's counting; certainly not me)! I quickly got ready and waited downstairs for Hayden to knock on my door — I would drive myself but unlike Hayden, I didn't have a car.

at lunch

"Aw, this place is so cute!" I shrieked, eyeing the cute little subway shop Hayden brought me to. "Jayden is on her way." Hayden said, ignoring me. "Why didn't you pick her up on the way here?" I asked. "She was..busy." he answered. Shrugging my shoulders, I walked over to a booth and put my bag down. "Change of plans, Johnny couldn't make it so Conner is coming instead." Hayden said. Conner, as in the Conner that broke apart me and Jayden's friendship? "Hayden, why the hell would you do that?" I whined while crossing my arms. He once again blocked my voice out, his head turned the other way as Conner walked inside the restaurant. "Hey Hayden...Annie." he muttered. I stared at my sneakers, refusing to look Conner in the eye. After a few minutes of dead silence, a bubbly dirty-blonde teenager dashed through the doors, otherwise known as Jayden. "Hey babe." Jayden squealed while giving Hayden a peck on the cheek. "Why are they here?" I could hear Jayden whisper to Hayden. "No need to keep your voice that low; they're my friends." Hayden smiled. After ordering and eating our sandwiches, it was time to leave. Hayden had a late swim practice so I decided to ride the bus home. While I was waiting for it to come (it was going to take around an hour), someone tapped me on the shoulder.

"Hey Le-Loser. I need to talk to you." Jayden said. "What? What is it this time?" I asked. "Why were you with Conner? Did you move on that fast?" Jayden laughed. "No — Johnny was supposed to come but cancelled last minute. Hayden didn't want me to be third-wheeling and I guess Conner was his next pick." I admitted.

"Nice to know that you're becoming an even bigger slut. What a way to break out of your shell." she grinned. "Jesus, we were ten Jayden! I didn't know you liked him back then!" I cried. "Well you seem to know I like him now!" she answered, immediately covering her mouth. What? Jayden was with Hayden; she couldn't like Conner. "What do you —" I began. "—Oh my God. No, I didn't mean to — crap." she stuttered. I looked at her in shock. How was I going to tell Hayden? But my thoughts were interrupted by her response to my deep ponder. She gripped onto my shoulders with her nails and pinned me against the wall. "You say anything, and I mean anything Le-Loser, your dead meat. Don't think I know your secrets, because I do. I'll let this whole school know what you're hiding." Jayden warned me. After that, she let go of me and stomped away. Once she was gone, I fell onto the bench. I looked down at my shoulders, which were red and burned from Jayden's sharp acrylics pinching into them. I tried to hold in my tears, but I couldn't. It was bad enough that Jayden liked Conner, but the fact that I couldn't even tell Hayden, my best friend or anyone about it made it one hundred times worse. My silent sobs were interrupted by a whisper. "Annie? Is that you?" I take my head out of my hands, my vision still a bit blurry.

"Kenzie?" I question. "Are you okay?" she asks. "No, I wish I could say something, anything. But if I do, I don't know what's going to happen." I cry. "I saw what just happened. I didn't hear anything, but Jayden should never hurt you like that. It was completely immature and terrible of her. Sometimes I don't even know why I'm friends with her." Kenzie sighs. "Yeah, she just told me something she wasn't supposed to, and then threatened me." I mumbled. Kenzie looked over at me as she wiped a tear off my cheek. "I'm sorry I poured my Starbucks on you." she said. "You had a right to. I'm so sorry I put hot sauce in your drink. I didn't want to, not at all, but there was a reason behind it; but if I say anything I'll be dead." I said.

"Is it your worst nightmare?" Kenzie asked.

"Huh?"

"Did someone with the name "Your Worst Nightmare" tell you to do that?"

"Yeah, they told me to get you to become my friend and then put hot sauce in your drink. How did you know?"

"They texted me too. They didn't give me any tasks to do, but they told me to keep an eye out for you. Wait, so right now are you only pretending to be my friend?" Kenzie asked.

"Woah woah woah. You want to be my friend? As in me, Julianna Grace LeBlanc?"

"It would be pretty great Annie." she smiled.

"Then as of now, everything I'm saying is coming straight from my heart." I grinned back.

"I have a feeling we are going to have the best bond ever."

"Agreed. Just one more thing Kenz; promise that you won't tell anyone what I said about the mystery number — or that you got a text from them. It's for our safety." I state.

"Of course, anything to protect my friend." she replied.

As I got up, we both hugged. It felt great, like I was actually safe again. I felt at home. Speaking of home, I probably should go back there.

"I should probably head home." I say.

"With what? Your feet?"

"No, I was planning on taking the bus." I laugh.

"No no no! Come on, I'll give you a ride home; my car is parked around the corner." Kenzie offered.

I smile and we head to the car.

"Are you sure you want to give me a ride? What if we live far away from each other?" I worry as I fasten my seatbelt.

"It's okay, my mom could care less. I don't want you strolling around in the dark." Kenzie says.

"Thanks, it means a lot to me."

And with that, Kenzie and I drove off into the sunset.
