The valley was deep and daunting, and though she didn't want to admit it... she missed the magic boat. It had been her only companion for months on end; together they had weathered storms, sailed through calm seas, and slept beneath the stars.

The girl wished she could run back down to the oceans shore, and see her little sailboat waiting for her rocking gently on the waves. But she knew she wouldn't...it had disappeared over the horizon; she had watched it go, skirt blowing in the cold wind.

And now, she felt more alone than ever...

Sighing she ignored the weight in her heart and recited the next verse of the prophecy.

"Valley deep, valley dark.

Who amongst them has heart?

Three will descend,

One will meet their end.

Who among them has hope for a friend?"

With that she began her first few steps down the stoney path into the valley resolving in herself. That though the valley was dark, with unwelcoming trees and was sure to be treacherous. The prophecy never mentioned a fourth girl, so surely nothing would happen to her. And that hope must be her friend shouldn't it?

Yet again she was determined.

"I will find my sister." She reassured herself. "I know she didn't meet her end, she is too smart for that... And I too will make it."

But shivering in the cold she became painfully aware that each new step brought her farther away from the ocean. And unlike before, the ocean meant home.

She didn't like this valley.

She didn't like it indeed...
