As Toby, Claire, and Jim descended into the basement, they were greeted by a very anxious Aargh. Monday had gone fine, but that night Blinky was starting to feel sick. On Tuesday he was no better, spending the whole day curled up under a blanket and watching cartoons on an old tv that Jim had dragged down for him. Aargh was confused and saddened by his little friend's condition; trolls almost never got sick, and it was very serious when they did.
When the human trio returned, Aargh showed them the listless little troll and they agreed to take him to troll market and face the wrath of Vendel. The sheer contrast of how Blinky was acting now with how he had been just yesterday was terrifying. Jim was haunted by the guilty knowledge that they should have taken Blinky to Vendel in the first place. Watching Aargh carry the tiny sleeping troll down the staircase to troll market, the humans hoped that Vendel would be able to help better than they had.
