Eren woke up late into the morning. He had a stiff neck from sleeping in a corner and also happened to be the only person left in the dormitory. Remembering the conversations he had yesterday, he made an awful effort to get up and fine everyone else. It was only until Eren was walking down the corridor that his memories came flooding back. "For the love of..." he mumbled to himself and walked up the stairs.

Reaching the door to Levi's room, Eren suddenly became stupidly scared to go in. Creaking the door open he peered in, timidly talking. "G-good morning sir."
"Anything good about it?" Levi's voice was muffled. Eren looked round to see that Levi had his pillow on his face. "Uh... what're you doing?"
"Dying inside," Levi said sarcastically, throwing the pillow onto the the floor. "You need that."
"Whatever..." Eren walked over and awkwardly perched on the end of the bed. They both said nothing for a while until Levi sat up slightly and stared at the dull, wooden ceiling. "Hey brat," Levi asked. "Yes sir," he responded. "Do you like Mikasa?"
"What?"
"Well do you?"
"Of course, I like everyone hear, well... minus horse face, I hate him."
"Who doesn't," Eren giggled slightly. "I don't think I've ever seen you smile before Jager," said Levi, tipping his head to one side. "It's been a while. And... I don't think I've seen you ever smile either,"
"No... I don't, not anymore, too much has been seen by my eyes..." his tone was flat. Eren wanted to give sympathy but couldn't think of anything to say so just stared at the blank, lifeless wall. "Anyway back to Mikasa," Levi broke the silence. "Ah..."
"Do you like her?"
"But I've already told you."
"No do you likelike her?"
"Why do you want to know?" Asked Eren nervously. "I have nothing better to do since I'm stuck in hear all day and night." Levi slumped his shoulders. "W-well... I... um... all I have to say is that I promised to protect her no matter what since she's the only part of my family left alive so... I guess?"
"Huh... okey then." Levi spoke in a bored way. Eren noticed a bandage on Levi's forearm. "What happened there?" He asked. "Some nurse came in and jabbed a needle in my arm to, I quote 'run a few tests',"
"Oh."
"You'd better get out of hear and find your friends, I'm bored of you." Commented Levi openly. "Right, bye sir," with that Eren ran out of the door.

Much to Eren's disappointment, they didn't have many conversations like that again because Levi became incapable of doing pretty much anything. The nurses had yet to decipher what Levi had come down with which unnerved a few people even more.

Hanji walked into the room one day, just to check up on Levi. The first noticeable thing she could see about him was his weight. Trying to cover for Levi's absence meant she hadn't seen him in a while. He was naturally a thin build but now he just happened to be nothing but frail and weak. The bones could be seen in his pale wrists and his clothes looked baggy, like they were a size to big. The malnutrition was due to the fact that Levi wouldn't eat. Refusing everything, only managing a little water, caused him to be unhealthy thin. Even if he wanted to eat he couldn't, since twice beforehand, after eating only something slight, within an hour threw up, putting an abrupt end to it. "Hey shortie," Hanji said, sitting in the chair by the bed. Shifting position, he turned away from her. "Charming." Someone knocked on the door and peeped in. "Oh Hey Eren,"
"Hi,"
"You can come in, I don't bite," she smiled. "But he might," and gestured towards Levi. Eren walked in and stood by the other side of the bed, nervously looking at the smaller male. "Have the nurses found out anything yet?" He asked. "None so far, but don't worry I'm sure it's nothing too severe, hopefully." Then one of the nurses came in with a clip bored. "Anything?" She nodded solemnly. "I'm afraid it- it's a little... unexpected."
"In what way?"
"Well there was a 0.03% trace of mercury in his blood, along with a few other highly unusual chemicals."
"Let me see that," Hanji pointed at the papers in the nurses hands. "Of course," she said and scuttled out of the room, painted shoes clipping on the floor. Hanji examined it for a while before dropping the papers and running her hand through her hair. Eren asked what was wrong but she had already bedded for her lab in the basement.

Two minutes later after a lot of rushing, she returned, picking up a sheet from the floor and another in her hand, covered in her squiggly handwriting. "This is what's wrong," She fumed and showed it to Eren. "I don't think I'm following," he said confused. "Right, a couple of months ago I a special kind of poison, strong enough to kill a titan, for Mikasa, did she tell you?"
"She said something but not much."
"These chemicals in Levi's blood are the exact same as the ones in the poison!"
"Wait... but that-"
"Someone's poisoned him!" Hanji interrupted then ran out, Eren closely behind.

Mikasa just happened to be sat around with the rest of the cadets. "Mikasa!" Hanji practically broke down the door. "Yes?"
"Do you still have that poison I gave you?"
"Uh... no I lost it a month or so back, sorry," which wasn't exactly a lie. She had just so happened to leave it in the forest when they left in order not to have any evidence whatsoever. "Dammit... thanks anyway c'mon Eren I need your help," Hanji sighed and dragged Eren by the sleeve.

Mikasa stretched her arms up smiling slightly. Idiot she thought. He'll be gone soon enough.
